Default Clutch Pedal Return Question

If the clutch pedal when depressed, doesn't return back to its "normal position", what problem is that an indication of? When backing out of the garage, I noticed that the normal pedal resistance wasn't there due to the fact that the pedal was not fully extended. I shut the car off and took a look. The pedal was extended maybe 50% of its normal distance. I reached down and tugged on the pedal, and it popped back up to where it should normally be. I haven't driven anywhere yet and but now the pedal pressure seems normal. Any suggestions on the problem? The car has 62M miles. Thanks!!!

common problem. lot's of "solutions", but most are not permanent. mine did it, and i cleaned the pedal bushings and lubed them. it helped but started again. I replaced the slave cylinder, and it still does it. Just learn to pull it back up with your foot.

sigf - Try lubing the pedal assembly, then bleeding the slave.
If that doesn't help, then possibly replacing the kinematic lever(sp?) thigamjig.
Obviously there is a solution, just not sure which one will fix yours.

Could be the kinematic lever in the clutch assembly. If you have a '95 or maybe even an early '96, this should be updated. Check this DIY on www.p-car.com.

Thanks for the comments. The car is a '95 C2 with 62M miles. I went for a spin tonight and the clutch seems fine after I pulled the pedal back that first time.

I have a slightly differnent problem but I wonder if it is related to having an older kinematic lever (95 993). My clutch seems to work fine when the car is warming up, but after the car is at temperature, the clutch pedal only returns to about 80% of its original position and less pressure is needed to depress the clutch. Do you think replacing the kinematic lever would help, or maybe just a slave cyclinder flush would do the trick?

Thanks!

My car just started doing this at Watkins Glen a few months ago. I thought it was due to a bad slave or because I had just replaced the clutch disk.

What harm will befall the car with the clutch doing this? Or is it just annoying?

So the part is $70 and it takes an hour of labor?

A new slave cylinder cured my 'hanging' pedal. I used to just hook my foot under the pedal to bring it back up when it happened initially (which was not that often). However, after a couple of years it got to the stage that it regularly did it and I got fed up of 'making do'.

It depends on where the failure point is but its possible that the clutch is not engaging properly/fully if the pedal is not returning completely.
