Default Yeah! My rear shocks are leaking!

Finally, after 10 months of ownership I'm doing my first mod. My car has 20K on it and is out-handled by my S2000.

After sifting through hundreds of suspension threads on this forum, I ended up with HD's, Euro springs and sways.

After messing around with a few suppliers here in Canada, I decided to order from Gert. He ended up being about $1500 cheaper (including exchange although I haven't yet factored any duty or fees into the equation). He has all the parts in stock and even talked me into a FPB. The ordering was quick and easy.

Looking forward to the intall next week. As I'm not a DIY'er, what would one expect to pay for and install, allignment and corner balance?

Cheers,
Bob

Hi Bob, welcome on the slope
Changing the shocks is not too difficult. Take your time and you'll be able to save another few $$$$. Rennlist is there to help!

Prices are all over the map but there is a guru here in so cal that did a shock, spring, sway install and corner balance for $450. That is a great price IMO.

That is a ludicrous price--no one around here is that low except maybe for a corner balance ONLY! Maybe I should have shipped my car out there.

I was quoted $1200 for the install of shocks, springs, and sways. Can you figure out why I did it myself??

Jeff,
The suspension DIY in your signature is very well done and was a big help to me in terms of gathering part numbers, getting educated on the process etc. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to put it together. it's members like you that truly add value to this place. Cheers.

Just got off the phone with a local suspension place that specializes in P-cars. Quoted $704 for the install and $550 for the corner balance. They said they would need to have the car for 2 full days as there was extensive tinkering and road-testing involved for the set-up.

Honestly, with a bit of patience and technique you could do it easily in 2 days too.

Believe me, I had the instructions all printed out until I realized the tools I would need to buy would set me back a meaningful portion of the cost to do it all. I may be wrong on the price, it may have been $100 more but that's it.

Toga:
I hear you ... pretty pathetic on my part isn't it.

One of the challenges is my mechanical ability and the other is a poorly equipped shop - unless you count the beer fridge of course.

In my case, ViperBob let me borrow the necessary Hazet sockets and I also purchases a 150 or 200-piece socket/wrench set. However, I didn't ~need~ to get the set, but it was simply the plug of DIY--you get to buy tools. They have really come in handy on additional projects around the house and on the car.

Noooo! Not at all! I only regret not to live closer to give you a hand...and empty your fridge
The tool part is of course an obstacle. I personnally took the option of buying good tools each time I needed them. And with the time passing by and the DIY increasing in number, I now have almost the basic ones and don't need to go to the shop so often. I take it as an investment for the kids

$1500 CHEAPER? how much did gert charge you then? did you check with a porsche dealer first? could you please detail the parts and the total price?

A porsche specialist here takes 400 euros for 4 struts/ springs change.
100 euros for both sways.
120 euros for weighed downforce balancing.

and at 150 mph, it better drive straight .....

I think you might be confused. The parts (HD's, Euro Springs, Sways and bushings) were 1595 Euro - $2250 Canadian.
The parts here locally were $3800 Canadian and they would have taken 10 - 12 days to come from California.

Dealer price on your setup is 1220 euros as a retrofit kit or 1485 euros as a seperate (part by part)pricing.
No porsche dealers in Canada with normal prices?

Interestingly enough, the part numbers for the Euro Springs and Sways are not even listed in their "standard" parts catalog - they found them in a supplement to their standard guide.
I'm not certain they sell a lot of 993 parts through dealers here in Canada.
