I went to smog my 993 today and it failed. It failed because the following monitors were not ready:
Catalyst
Oxygen sensor heater
Second air system
I disconnect my battery in the winter since I do not drive the car. The guy at the smog place said "since you disconnect your battery it resets the sensors".
Is this true?
How do I make the sensors read properly so I can pass smog?

Dude, do a search, this was and has been a hot topic for a while now. Trust me, there'll be plenty for you to read!
From what I've read here, sometimes they "set" fairly quickly and sometimes they don't. There is a painful driving cycle that will guarantee they will be set. Does Nevada have a smog "referee" system like California? These guys know how difficult it can be to get those codes to set, and will often waive that portion as long as the smog test is good.
Rufus had some reset codes when I went to first smog him. By the time I got to the referee station there were only a couple still unset, and they passed him with flying colors.
Hmmmmmm somewhere I have the drive cycle that si required.....I will try and find it and send to you by PM.........
At least this is all I think you have to do......then you can go to somewhere like pepboys and ask them to put it on the OBDII reader and check the registers are all set
I just got off the phone with Nevada DMV and there are no exceptions. 2 of the 3 sensors must be reset. This happened to me last year and it cost about $500.00 to have the dealer reset all the codes. This is a yearly pain in my @$&..
Its not $500....its just a matter of driving the car....as I said earleir....what a shame......go have some fun for an hours and it should be fine........but first read the p.car site for info
I have a copy of an article for resetting the drive cycles. I had to use this last year here in Las Vegas. Took me about 45 minutes to do and worked out great. Can send to you if interested. just PM me.
