Gauging Interest: 97 C4S 52K TONS of goodies, Top End in progress
I have not made up my mind yet, so this is just testing the water. I probably will not be able to recoup all the money I put in, not even close. So, I'd probably keep this car and sell my 996.
Here is the thing, I found another slippery slope. And the following pic showed one slippery slope parked next to the other. So, I'm thinking I need some rebalancing...
So, more about the car...
Basics:
- 97 C4S Glacier White
- 53K miles
- Last 2 owners are Porschephiles in Portland. Mostly a garage queen (I think that's why it needs a Top End rebuild so soon (see below)).
- Car hasn't been tracked or raced, according to some "background check", talking to various Porsche people in Portland who knows the car.
- Very clean inside & out. Rubber seals, interiors, paint, etc. all very fresh.
- Clean Car Fax
- Clean Pre-Purchase Inspection done in Feb/06 when I first bought it
Upgrades done recently (4000-5000 miles ago) by Jeff Gamroth @ Rothsport, crew cheif of Alex Job Racing:
- Regeared tranny (custom close ratio gear selected by Rothsport)
- RS Short shift, clutch, Lightweight flywheel,
- RS strutbars and sways
- GIAC chip (Steve Weiner's programing)
- Bilstein PSS9 (Euro RS specs)
- V1 hardwired
- Bumper lic plate holes plugged and resprayed
- Door latch "click" fixed
Other Goodies:
- Fiberglass Turbo spolier (professionally painted & installed by Mathew Carlsen in Palo Alto. High end shop.)
- Still have original C4S lid, of course
- Turbo front scoops, also painted & installed by Mathew Carlsen
- 3 spoke 996 steering wheel
- OE 4 spokes spare
- OE CD deck spare
- Panasonic CD deck / MP3 CD / 2.5mm input jack for ipod
- MB Quart speaker systems (front & rear, crossover)
THREE sets of mufflers setup:
- DACH X pipe & RSR Mufflers with OE big oval tips (X pipe new in box)
- GHL Loud version with GHL oval tips (2000 miles)
- Motor Sound Package - airbox & mufflers (came from factory)
TWO sets of wheels:
- Almost new BBS RS GT with correct offsets (BEAUTIFUL gun metal / polished rims)
- SmartTire Tire Pressure monitoring system
- Almost new BF Goodrich tires with carefully researched tire specs (I need to look it up), model is KDW2 I believe.
- Original OE C4S Turbo Twists were professionally refinished with less than one thousand miles on them. They are now sitting in 4 separate paper boxes.
Top End Rebuild in progress - being done by Ross @ Devek:
- I didn't want to screw anyone by ebaying it, so I decided to go ahead with the top end rebuild.
- It's being done at Devek by Ross. Their reputation is self explantory.
- This is a proper job being done by true professionals.
- I'm using the phorsphorus copper valve guide from Steve Weiner
Total Investments: $65K
Ouch!! That's a slippery slope all right.
I must have been crazy. PLEASE TELL ME I HAVE SOME COMPANY HERE...
Now that I'm typing this, and tallying up the numbers for the first time, I realized I probably won't come close to recovering the invested money. I don't have to sell it. It's just when I go thru the new house, there are tons of things I want to do and I want them all at once...
Anyway, if someone is seriouslly interested and is not looking to low ball me, please PM me...
Oh, there are more pics here:

Question.........why are you even debating.......why do you still have the 996......come to that, when you have this beauty why did you have the 996 in the first place........the only answer is to sell the 996.....if you can find a buyer that is.....after all once they see the 993 parked next to it they will not want a 996 and will immediately run away looking for a 993 to buy........

Now that you've finished gliding down the slippery slope, it's time to get on with enjoying that beautiful C4S and benefit from your project .... for years to come!
There's always another kermit green xxx to be found - but not a worked over 4S.
Now, for that sage advice, you can send me on your price for the spare motorsound muffs as I get back on my slippery slope .... hollow spokes to arrive this week , etc

love the color.... but understand the "twitch" to do something different, even if what you have is great... its the curse of being a car enthusiast...
however, i can tell you that i have got that "twitch" half a dozen times in the last year, and everytime when it comes right down to it, i cant get rid of the 993

Here is how you can keep both cars....
sell the Peninsula home and move across the Bay to Fremont!
Seriously, now that the 993 is in for surgery, you owe it to yourself to drive her a bit, maybe 50,000 miles or so.
I take it you are not the one driving the 996. Sell that and move down to a Honda Civic! Put the "change" into the house.

Thanks, folks. As I was typing the message and adding things up, I realized that it was a pretty crazy idea too.
I got the tiptronic "kermit green" (actually Ocean Jade) for my wifey. She gets a silly green sometimes driving it. I don't have the heart to take that away from her.
Anyway, just toying with the idea at this point. I'm allowed to change my mind.
