Default Mobil 1 Question

Which grade of Mobil 1 would be best for the UK? I know that climate is a factor in choosing the grade.

I use Castrol GTX Magnatec 10W-40 rather than Mobil 1. I know Mobil 1 grades keep changing but at the time I got my car they did not have a suitable grade. It is designed for more modern engines with tighter tolerances. By modern standards the 993 engine is rather primitive and needs a relatively thick oil; a thin oil like the original Mobil 1 will lead to engine wear. Also, the handbook recommends semi-synthetic oils (which is what Magnatec is), whereas Mobil 1 is fully synthetic.

Robert

Interesting, so many people have so many different ideas about what to use. I was told to use Mobil 1 20w50 the other day that's a new one to me.

Details There is a Mobil Super HP 20w50 and a Mobil Super XHP 20w50, not very good at the specifics but check out the details and see if its worth a pop.

I don't know how HP and XHP compare in quality with Mobil 1; I'd guess they're lower specification. 20-50 is fine for summer driving, especially with the weather we're having at the moment but it's probably a bit treacly in the winter.

Conditions here in vermont are very similar to the UK notwithstanding late November through mid March. I run 0-40 Mobil 1 in all months with the exception of June - August where I run 15-50. Have had great success with no problems. The 15-50 is just a bit too thick for the cooler mornings in the fall and spring and takes quite some time to come up to temperature.
