Default LPMM with a twist (or a curve)!

Here is my LPMM Muffler mod that I had done in Seattle by Stan's Headers in Auburn. I RNRed them this afternoon and am real happy with the result.

I was spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to make a variable muffler and I am now sure I would have been disapointed as these are not too loud at all at normal speeds and there is not the problem with them being too loud for cruising and chatting with my wife.

I think if I did a variable, it would have to close off the muffler side and have all the exhuast bypass. That might be even louder but I am not sure it is worth the effort. This setup seems to allow some exhaust through the muffler at low loads and is reasonably quiet...at least with the windows closed. With the windows open it is real nice and loud without being too loud.

When cruising the muffs seem to be quiet enough but at higherRPMs they dump much more out through the bypass as well as under full throttle and higher RPM. It works very well!

So I really like the sound and am very pleased with the results.

I did mine a little different as the welding shop used a 180 deg SS pipe they had in stock and used 1/2 for each side. They also used a slip joint to get them fit in there. I wonder if the curve helps any...

Cheers!

Looks great Bruce! I did LPMMs last month and love the result. Just as you say they definitely not too loud cruising, but go WOT and they sound great. I also think they sound great just idling. Good job!

I'm glad I have helped a few get some more rumble from their pipes. I am Porscheless right now and it is killing me.

Leland, I wish I could send you an audio file to take care of your fix!

Randy, I am batching it right now so if you want to hear, let me know! I can go your way or come out here to Normandy Park!

Cheers!

Another one bites the bullet...

Looks good, and I'm sure your grinning when you floor it (and then let off the gas).

Still loving mine.

Clive.

Did you use stainless steel tubing? If so, where did you buy yours from? I'm having a hard time finding a place that will sell such short lengths.

Father of 3,

The shop I went to had the SS 180 in stock but here are some places I found on the web that you can buy from. I would think a header shop in your area or a high end exhaust shop should have it though.

Bruce, I would ask the shop again about that pipe. It looks like aluminumised muffler pipe, not stainless. I say that because it also looks like they MIG welded it which would indicate tube. Stainless would need to be TIG welded, and that doesn't look like tig. Not a half bad welding job though

993inNC,

It is 409 SS as I looked at it before they welded it. The welder did say he was going to use the "regular" weld on it so he must have MIG welded it. Not sure how that affects the structural or metalurgy and etc. It will prolly rust like a bast@rd at the welds...

Okay, yeah, I've used it but don't like it as much as 304. There is a metal primer/etcher that you can put on it that'll keep that rust down for a long time. Ah the name you ask..............I'll look when I'm out in the garage again and let you know.
For what you're doing, it'll probably never go anywhere. Tig is a stronger hold but you're really under no stress there so it won't matter. The worst that'll happen is the muffler falls off while at high speed, flings off into the guy behind you, goes throught the windshield and kills the passanger.......but nothing major Enjoy .......
