Default Is the CL500 faster than my 96 993?

My buddy left town for about a month so while he & his wife are away I've been asked to keep an eye on his house and to feel free to use his 2003? CL500. Damn this car is quick! Its more comfy than my 928 was and although I wouldn't bet it corners as well as my 928 did it does just about everything better and faster. Voice activated stuff, you name it - its got it. Only troubling thing is....

I think its quicker than my 993!

Does anyone have the performance figures on these beasts? I think I want one of my own!

It is faster on a straight line up to about 100mph.

I have a CLK 55AMG and it destroys my 993. But the you hit the curves and bye bye Benz

I used to own a CL 600 one of my favorite cars. however, the driving experience in no way comes close to a porsche I think the car weighed like 6000lbs or so

That's why they make the 993 TT.

Yeah, almost wrote that its time for a Turbo but as with all written affirmations there stands the risk that they may come true! I figure maybe just buying some PSS9's and leaving my money invested in "appreciable" assets is a far wiser move......at least for now!

There are plenty faster cars than a 993. They were never that fast. Have to go turbo if you want a fast Pcar.

Agreed there are may faster cars but the overall package is one of the best IMO. Look at the Top Gear video of the 997 C2S against the new M6 and a new Aston V8, the others are faster and more powerful but the Porsche wins by over 10 seconds along the same road on the Isle of Man, same driver too.

My brother has a CL600 it is quick, but corners like a shopping trolley full of logs. It's just a matter of choice I like the raw drive of my old Porsche, the other car is refined and you feel removed from the driving experience.

The Aston is not as fast as the 997C2.

I find the 993, fast enough to keep up with the horsepower crazy new cars of today.

Granted, the Aston V8 isn't faster than the 997, however 10 seconds is substantially quicker and M6 is more powerful.

Bruce, it's a shopping cart to you guys!

Don't get me wrong guys, I have absolutely no intentions on selling my P-car...its waaaaaaaaay more fun than the Merc. I've also been driving the Benz for about 3 weeks now and all I can say is its a nice luxury performance sedan. Its the most comfortable car I've ever driven next to my parents Rolls Royces and Bentleys. I like the Benz better than those cars by far but even the Benz screams "look at me" I have money! The P-car does that to some extent I guess but I have it because it looks cool and is fun to drive. I suppose if I want luxury and real performance I'll go get a 997......but not before prices drop significantly!

our cars are very slow... seriously, i think that my minivan is almost as fast in a straight line... sure curves are a very different story... i love the car for all the other reasons, but the HP or lack of it has definitely got me pondering a 993tt or even (gasp) 996tt...

so yes, my guess is that the Merc is faster
