if it smells oily , i'd say a mechanic or engineer has been using the car for work and not wearing clean overalls ????

Maybe the seat belts are actually the mystery origin of "that smell".

Finally got back from London on the train - £100!! No wonder I prefer to drive everywhere... anyway. As part of the dealer's bit, Ray Northway replaced the gasket covers as they were leaky and cleaned out the heat exchangers (I think my terminology is correct). He said that it could have been putting the oil smell into the cabin and it just got caught in the seat belts.

Possible? I dunno. I think it's more then likely the old previous mechanic-not-wearing-clean-overalls syndrome.

Ain't nout to do with fish and chips mate. Which reminds me... vinegary chips wrapped, with lotsa salt.... Mmmmm
