All,
Bit of a weird one. The seat belts in the car smell badly of oil. It kinda makes all my clothes smell weird, but only across my shoulder and chest (basically where the belt goes).
The question is: What can I use to clean it and get rid of the smell?
Thanks,
Mark

i think i remember reading somewhere that there are special rules to cleaning seat belts (was probobly one of my car owners manuals )
what does it say in the porsche manual ?
some detergents might weaken the webbing or something !!!

I use Lexol on my whole interior, including seat belts now and then. Never had long_beach_968's problem, but I don't let drink guys in my car.

bmw answer .................
page 7 tells me index is page 213
page 213 tells me seatbelts are page 55 and 58
page 58 is all about airbags !!!
so i skip to page 57 , that says "comply with the instructions regarding seatbelts on page 55 ,
page 55 says , blah blah blah "never restrain more than one person with each seatbelt" !!! blah blah blah , yadda yadda yadda , "for care of seatbelts see page 159 ,
page 159 says "seatbelts should only be cleaned with mild soap suds (without removing them from the car ) . do not dry clean or use chemical products , or the fabric may be weakened "

Biz laundry detergent has oxygenated bleach in it and should take the odor out. Just fill a decent sized pan with some warm water and add the Biz. You can pull the belt all the way out and clamp it so it doesn't retract. Let the belt soak for a bit and scrub with a brush. This worked well for me when I bought an Audi that had really stinky cologne all over the seatbelt. I tried everything on it but nothing would budge it. The Biz worked like a charm. The water was dark from the greasy calogney gook that was on the belt too!
