Engine wise I'll be either doing a top-notch N/A rebuild or going TT. My goal is with 450@the wheels N/A or 600 TT'd. It really depends on which of the 2 ideas has the best $$ Vs HP&TQ ratio. I'd love for 500 N/A engine over a TT'd setup anyday but I don't know what that will do to my reliability. I'd like to go 6-7 years between refits with an average of about 6K miles a year. I have to admit, I'm not very familiar with the 993's engines in particular at this time but I plan on being a sudo-expert by the time I begin the rebuild.
For a TT engine, there was a used engine on ebay last week for $30k, the associated upgrades to get it to 600 whp would run well over $50k. (I have a friend with an 800 crank hp 993 that cost in the vicinity of $80 k to build properly)
I think you should start looking at the prices of you 'Dream' upgrades, because at the moment after finding a good car, you would be heading close to $80k in upgrades and at the end of the day the car would only be worth maybe $50k if you are lucky.

Note original dream was from 2006 and nobody mentioned the availability of 959 parts.
In 2010 Porsche Reading had two 959s and told me they got a rear end for a 959 recently then, from the Middle Eats. The cost was 25,000 but I cannot recall whether in GBP or USD!

Wow, way old thread guys. I never did te CHP, got as far as my academy start date and never went in, for some personal reasons. I'm now an electrical engineer making $150K a year base. I would have done this and gone TT but I have a fiance with 4 kids and I have 2 and housing and life takes priority. I'm not the single guy with disposible income I was 6yrs ago when I made that post. I even have my 1956 Corvette up for sale to help pay for a house and I sold my new Ducati too after only a couple years.

AN engine like this will set you back around 40k pound. so around us$50k, and that doesn't include shipping your engine there and back.

I also cannot fathom what would require $50k in costs to get a 993TT to 600whp.
even if you consider $10k for machine work/assembly, $15k for turbos/IC/injectors/fuel pump, $10k for other engine parts and another $5k for clutch/tranny, you are still $10k short of that figure.
