I think the build quality of the hand built 92-94 964's is noticably better than the 993. They just shoe horned that 996 rear end into the 993 because it wasn't ready for release yet, and I don't think there is any advantage. The six speed seems geared wrong, and I here the valve cover gasket leaks on the vario cars more often than you have to adjust valves. And the carbon issue. From a mechanics point of view you can tell they started cutting corners with the 993, and it isn't faster than a 964 in the right hands.

I wouldn't mind having a GT2 though,
But would prefer a 964 cup car.

No offence to any one....

gasket leaks on the Vario cars? So...you are saying that 993's have Variocams?

Well it started out civilized.

It just shows both intelligent people and idiots drive both 993's and 964's and personal opinion sometimes outweighs the truth.

How does it go? When fiction is believed more than the truth print the fiction.

993s were also built by hand. the only automated part of the process was the painting.

I was implying that even though you don't have to adjust the valves on post 95 cars you have to replace the gaskets often. It is clear they started cutting cost with the 993, using a plastic bolt instead of a metal one. It just a sign of the times. Just like BMW and Mercedes, they can't afford to build them like they use to. I'm not trying to bash the 993, it's a nice car. But I personaly think the 964 is the last of the solid 911's with the craftmanship that gave german cars there reputation of build qualty.

I guess I'm just old school

I drove 964 and 993 when I was looking to buy. Came to realise you get what you pay for. Newer model has improvements over older model, different issues, pros cons etc. 993 lines appealed to me more, so I ended up with 993. Friend was looking at the same time, he opted for 964 for his preference on how it looks. We both happy with our choices.
