Default Varioram Inscription in the manifold??

Im in the process of shopping for a C2 and it appears some the cars that I've seem have the Varioram inscription on the manifold. My friend's C2S has it but others do not. Are certain models and/or years have the inscription (i realize the 95's should not)?

Thanks

I think Porsche started doing that on 97+ 993s. My late year model production 96 993 does not have it.

My 97 doesn't have the inscription. It's kind of redundant anyway -- the equivalent of inscribing "TURBOJET" on the engine nacelle of a turbojet aircraft.

1996 was a transition year to manifolds w/the varioram script so there are some 96 MY cars with the script. It seems to just depend on which manifold was pulled from the factory's parts bin. E.g., my 10/95 build '96 did not have it while another Rennlister's 7/95 build '96 did have the script.

My 1998 C2S has the script. Incidentally, has anyone thought of and/or actually painted the script with, say a caliper red paint or in any other color? That might look kinda cool poking up at you thru the vents in the spoiler!! Just a thought.

Not recommend painting the varioram script on the aluminum varioram.

No paint will stick well, so you will end up with ugly flaked off paint that gets sucked into the cooling fan and resting on the head of the motor.

The VARIORAM script on the manifold is here to differentiate between different porsche engines, and not just mere esthetic as was said on this thread.
Porsche variable inlet ducting lenght was introduced in the engine from mid 1996.
Before 1996, the engines were coded M64.07 3.6 litres 200KW/ 272 bhp.
then came the M64.23 engine with varioram and 210kw/285 bhp
a big difference.

for the enthusiast:

LRM Cyl. Lit: Kw Mount Model Engine number
________________________________________________________________

M64.07 6 3.6 200 1994 911 CARRERA (USA)(CDN) 64R 00501>20000
M64.07 6 3.6 200 1995 911 CARRERA (USA)(CDN) 64S 00501>20000
M64.23 6 3.6 210 1996 911 CARRERA (USA)(CDN) 64T 00501>20000

Todays porsche engines are dual varioram

Nope, no engine changes involved! The early Varioram intakes, which are identical to the later Varioram intakes, did not have the script. Most '96s don't have the script, most '97s and all '98s do. I have owned one of each which were as described...none on the '96 and there on the '97, from new.

My '97 does not have it - build date is 7/96. Guess I'm an early one.

A quick search on "varioram script" reveals that this has been discussed lots before. Try these links, the first one even has a pic:

I think I read that the 993s with "Varioram" engraved are faster and have more torque than those that do not. This is due to the increased diameter of the Varioram pipe due to the inscription, which leads to increased air flow and overall efficiency of the Varioram system.

Adds like 10 HP and 25 lbs of torque at 5200 RPMs....

That is very true....and when combined with the stronger engines installed in the white cars....unmeasurable on the everyday dyno!

Even more so on a cab with the top down, center of gravity is lower and wind resistance is decreased.
