Default Help with Brace for Steering Rack.

I'm planning to fit my 1995-993 with a set of 19" wheels. I was informed that I need to have my Steering Rack braced.
Anybody has a picture of what it looks like and how to install it?

Thanks so much.

Regards.

Thank You. I truly appreciate it.

Anyway; it is that silver bar thingy fastened by two bolts on the sides isn't it?

My car is already equipped with a strut bar. Do I still need that brace?
Thanks.

Indeed, you do if you intend to install 18" wheels.

since the thread is already started, I have a question for everyone. I know everyone says you should not run 18" wheels on a 964, but I have a set of speedlines 9 & 10 that I want to run. Is this steering brace something I should do also as well as the brace between struts? thanks! Jim

Jim,
If the little aluminum brace fits the 964 rack as well, I would install it. It certainly can not hurt. I'm not sure if the steering racks changed between 964 & 993 though.

Sorry to do this, but the brace was spec for 18" wheels, if I remember correctly Porsche issued a directive or advisory not to use 19s with the 95 993. Does anyone else remember that or am I wrong?

You can get the brace directly from your dealer. Ask for the PCA discount and most dealers will honor it.

The brace should work fine with a 964 rack... I just installed an RSA rack (manual 964) on my 993 which had the brace already. As someone already mentioned, you would need the longer (80mm) screws. Now whether this is sufficient to allow running 18s is outside of my expertise... but I do remember some spirited discussions on the topic on the 964 board!

Cheers, Mark.
