Holy smokes....very sorry to hear about that. I was cringing in the middle of reading your story and can only imagine how sick you must feel.
I second Steve's recommendation to delete the rain gutters (i.e. Ruf style). Something to consider as a minimum.

First, I am very sorry to hear of the unfortunate incident. I hope your insurancec takes care of you weel.
I think you really need to figure out the sequence of events and why the lift was rising after the breaker was reset. For that matter if you were lowering the car and the lift continue lowering, it may have caused bodily harm. It should not have continue moving after you reset the breaker. You may need to call the manufacturer of see if this particular model of lift has had same issues.

Oh man, I am so sorry that this happened to you. I have have often wondered about what kind of safety-shutoffs there are on these lifts. The advice about taking pics of the contacts, etc... is very sound. I would have your attorney (or insurance co.) recommend someone to do the mechanical forensics.

Boy, one thing I can say is that it would make me sick (literally, queesy) seeing my 993 damaged like that. Heck, I get nervous when I see the kids moving their bikes next to the car.

All the kind words from around the world is helping me come to grips with this unfortunate event. The car is still up on the lift. Monday maybe the earliest to get it down and get a better view of the damage. I took more pictures but I have to find my 'how to' instructions on how to add them to this thread. I will try to do this Sunday. Again, my thanks to all those who love these cars!!!!!!!

From what I see the door seams look good. The wing glass did not break.
The damage is not going to be cheap, but it looks like the car did not get really badly beat up. Count your blessings.
Damn beam!
