It's a wrap? Didn't I see elsewhere that it was recently painted in peelable paint, similar to plasti-dip?

Yes, peelable paint, but still a wrap just not in the sense of a vinyl style wrap, but a full sprayed on paint wrap. It's not plasti-dip, but general concept is similar.

The product is called P1coating which is a Belgium company. This product is the latest and greatest on the market as far as liquid wrap goes. It's water-based so it's not like AutoFlex which is a solvent-based peelable paint. Less abrasive on the OEM paint below compared to the solvent based products. Plus it requires less coats overall and significantly quicker drying time.

It can be treated like OEM paint as far as washing/waxing/compounding/polishing/ceramic coating etc.

Wonder if that's what Topaz Detailing uses in London. They advertise Topaz Skin and have plenty of YouTube videos on it.

What was the cost if you don't mind sharing?

Do they dissemble the car for the spray? (Headlights, rear bumper, etc?)

I was thinking of Topaz too, which is very impressive. We have one shop here in Vancouver starting to do this type of work, but I’ve yet to see their work.

Very neat and looks great. I am also curious as to cost as I've read it lasts -up to- 5 years. Also interested to see how much work it is to remove at some point if you choose.

Don't know about Topaz and what they use. The manufacturer is P1coating (https://www.p1coatings.com/), their primary market is Europe.

I paid $2500. The shop I used is a pro in spraying the solvent based peelable paint, but had never used this p1coating water-based product. He said it's a thicker product when spraying, so there is some adjustments to get it even and lay properly. So it was something he's wanted to try and we basically worked out a deal.

Yes, the level of disassembly is up to you, headlights, front bumper, rear bumper, rubber seals/trim etc. I did not elect to remove the bumpers or seals. Fit and finish was very good, but its dependent on how well the car is prepped and taped beforehand. There's still some flaws that need to be fixed and addressed, but I've got an appointment to take it back in the coming week to refinish and possibly respray some panels (runs and such) that he just didn't have time to redo because I was taking the car to Carlisle PCA event.

P1coating will warranty the product up to 20 years (using their base primer + clearcoat). The solvent-based paint is approximately 5 years depending on how you use and store the car. Removal is easy, he peeled one of the panels right off during the initial spray. Also, I've done some small clean ups around the trim at home and it comes off without any issues.

Interesting. I wonder what the market would be here for this type of product. Cost would be a factor as compared to wrap as well as finish quality and it's likeness to quality paint.

I was at Carlisle and wish I had seen your car! It looks great and that’s roughly the same price as PPF on 1/2-2/3 of a car so I think it’s a great way to protect and change color temporarily.

Thanks for the info.

That's incredible you paid $2500, I'm inclined to think Topaz could be using the same product too. Really the cost is all in the labour. So does it look like paint to you?

Based on these videos by Topaz in UK, it sure does appear like paint and protects better than a PPF too!
