Ryan,
Thank you for the list of contacts. I may have found a company willing to mill these blanks to the correct dimensions (and one of the owners is a certified Porsche fanatic). I'll post more when I know more.

Slight update: I have found a source for multiple used dash clocks, at a fairly reasonable price (considering a new one costs $400.48 from Sunset). After speaking with four woodworking companies that deal primarily in plaques and trophies, I think two of them would be up to the task. The advantage is that these companies used automated CNC fabrication. Once a design is properly dimensioned and fed to their machines, repeatability can be assured.

I should have a few responses today and will have a better feel for what the material costs are. As a heads-up, the clocks will need to cost more than $100 to break even. At this point, it seems that the following people have an interest in a clock. This will certainly help when deciding how many blanks to purchase:

- Mark in Baltimore
- Sumtoc
- dhicks
- SR71Blackbird
- 993Dave
- ARM993
- Air Kuhl TT
- Scott 1996 993c2
- luv2ride
- mstupp 993in NC
- My87Targa
- skruggs964

$400 for this clock, new from Suncoast? Yikes! If you have a line on used ones though as you mentioned, and can churn some out for about $110 or so set in wood, with a way to change the time easily, I'd DEFINITELY be in.

It would look so sweet on my desk at home. I have an ugly plastic Sopranos clock on my TV in my home office and it's really mediocre looking. The 993 clock would be awesome.

It would be great if the body of the clock would be made of carbon fiber!.... or at least of something that looks like a real vynil dash of 993.... IMHO..

UPDATE
I have made enough calls to get a feel for what the material costs will be. I am working with one company to finalize the costs for the wood blanks and have enough clocks identified to begin a batch in the next few weeks. The Porsche rocker switch, although neat, would just add another $15 or so to each clock, so I have elected to incorporate a simple push-button switch to set the time.

In order to bring this idea to life, I will need to price the clocks at around $175. This would include shipping anywhere in the US.

Please let me know if there is interest at this price point. Your responses will determine if this project is feasible.

Hey Andreas -

I'd be "in" at $175.

The price of used 993 clocks on eBay just shot up.

Nice work.

Should I take this as a compliment, or an insult?

Well, since he said "Nice work" I'm pretty sure it's a compliment.

Does this include Hawaii and Alaska, too? We do have some Rennlisters in both locales.
