A Carrera on my desk - UPDATED

Andreas, sounds like you have someone to crank out some wood blanks. If you end up needing more help I have a woodshop (furniture is a serious hobby of mine).
Looks like used clocks can be picked up at a dismantler for about $150.
Now if you can just fire up the christmas tree lights on the hour... or maybe add a flat 6 engine sound as a chime...
Is this how the "Billy Bass" (is that the name?) guy got started?

All,
I have been discussing this idea with a few Rennlisters who have access to proper woodworking equipment. As soon as I finished the clock, I knew that I wanted to make more. So the damage is done - the numerous PMs and emails today indicate that there is a demand.
I will be looking into material costs and post back here with my findings. Stay tuned.

If I can offer these to the masses, I think a simple one-design such as the one I made would make sense initially. Wood choices and other materials may come later.
I'm sure the illumination function can be incorporated via a switch.

Andreas, Very Cool... I want one too...
[QUOTE]I would actually consider making these for others, but would need to find someone who can churn out unfinished wooden blanks with the correct dimensions. Anyone have a full-fledged woodshop?[QUOTE]
Here are some sources for wood clock blanks. If they dont have them they can probably send you in the right direction. Good luck.

If it's possible to make these in quantity, I would like to know what people would be willing to pay. Calling a few of the common Porsche parts dismantlers did not reveal any savings over what Ebay prices tend to be. The set costs are the clock mechanism, adjustment switch, the wood blanks, and the required electrical items. It adds up quick. If I can get a feel for what the market allows, this may indeed be an interesting project. If I can cover my costs, I would be interested in pursuing this further.
