Question Polar or Arctic Silver <- aren't they the same?

How many factory silver are out there for 993's? I see some post Polar and others Arctic. Are we talking about the same color here? Anyway to find out from VIN for the correct color?

Thanks,

Here is another side by side I lifted when looking into this same issue.

I have only seen one polar in person, briefly, it was quite striking. I did read someone's opinion saying polar silver clashed with the silver wheels, whereas artic did not (again not my opinion). I have artic it is pretty much a basic silver that some say has a slight brown tint. Polar is said to have a blueish tint. I personally like the GT silver on the 997s, that to me, is a brighter silver than either.

Anyone have GT silver next to Arctic or Polar?

I've seen GT silver pics. It's like 2 colors in one, sometimes silver and sometimes grey depending on the light. But i've never seen side by side comparisons i believe.

The polar in the post 993 cars has slightly more blue in it than that of the pre 996 cars.

Although I don't have a pic at hand, you will notice some significant brown in arctic when viewed side by side with gt, which appears more 'pure'.

It's a well known fact that polar adds 10 hp. ;-)

I found this old 997 thread pretty helpful in terms of Porsche silvers: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ver+Metallique

Ed,
I had it since new. I just never figure out the correct name for the color.
Thank you all here at the Rennist.

Thumbs up

Polar silver cars have a blue-ish tinge to them whereas Arctic silver is more of a traditional silver silver if you get my meaning!

Cheers,

David

i have owed both- artic 993c2, and now, polar 993Turbo.
Both silvers are great, but, IMHO polar is far better b/c it looks a wider range of colors in different light. I get many more compliments on the polar than i did on the artic. The artic looks much more ordinary with a hint of brown. The polar can look anywhere from light blue to silver to a blue/gray. I think polar is a more unique color going forward. Im not sure on GT silver.

Plus, you can then have your interior pieces sprayed to match the outside.

Hi Rob,

I'm interested as to which bits you got sprayed?

Cheers,

David
