Default DIY help on polishing exhaust tips

A few weeks ago someone polished their OEM stock tips using a drill and metal wire sander. Can you help me find the thread? I serached and cannot find.

Im wondering if it is easy to remove the exaust tips? I looked under thier and they appear to be welded. Is that true?

Thanks, TJ

I pulled my exhaust tips yesterday & gave them a quick clean. I just used an SOS pad, then some Cameo Aluminum & Stainless Steel cleaner. Not as good as the wire wheel approach, but they look significantly better. Whole job took 30 min, start to finish. THey come off by removing one bolt.

Excellent - this was exactly was I was looking for.

I actually want the satin - not chromed - look. I was in Sears yesterday and bought a end brush - not wire, but actually nylon with embedded grit. A little more expensive but you can get them in different grits - I will post results.

Looking forward to your pictures.

FWIW, I was a part of the thread linked above, and I continue to be happy with my results. No rust issues at all, and after having cut through years of tarnish/discoloration with the brush, the tips now continue to shine up very easily with a basic metal polish applied with a rag every now and then.

I was the originator of that thread.

FWIW, the tips are doing very well. There has been no rust issues (due to the wire brush) nor any other ill effects. That being said, I haven't installed them on my car. After I finished cleaning them up, I found a pair of Porsche Motorsound Chrome Tip in the Rennlist Classifieds and bought them.

So, these satin tips are now stored in bubblewrap.....perhaps I need to sell them and stop cluttering up the house with Porsche parts.

Isn't "clutter" and "Porsche parts" an oxymoron?
