I just took mine off completely. Less weight and more cleaner & old skool look which I like. I have decklid from 96 although I'm replacing it with C/F.

FYI, those who want RS look, original didn't have it either.

As far as inspections go, we don't have them so that's not a problem for me.

Speaking of basket handles, this 96 in SF has both the upper factory 3rd light, plus a basket handle. Hard to see from this pic, but trust me...

I thought the 95 wing looks pretty good when I first saw it, however I don't plan on adding one to my 97.

Regarding using plugs to cover the holes - it's not so simple. I was going to do that as a temp. measure until I had time/$ to have the deck re-painted, but, there is 1 hole on the left side and 2 holes right next to each other on the right side (one for mounting and one for the wires); so I am just waiting to do it right.

I had a guy do it here, who did an amazing job.. welded up the holes and repainted the whole gig.. fixed a dent... $250 Maybe you can send it to him>? He is an amazing painter and just does small stuff in the garage.. He's in Santa Barbara though..

God you guys, all I said was "I thought the two devices mounted on the car were too retarded for "MY" tastes".....I never once said they were retarded on anyones car in particular but some of you felt personally insulted and jumped me.
It's my opinion and that's all....to be flamed for saying so does not make me the ******* here, it makes me feel I have to defend my right to speak my mind on the forum, and if that offends some listers, then so be it.

No matter what has transpired, "I still think the Basket Handle when mounted with the RS (or any tail for the matter) looks too retarded for My tastes!"

Now please drop the BS and get on with your lives(only for those who jumped me, not for other rennlisters)............ZP44

Long live the basket handle! I have no plans to get rid of mine; but to each his own.

I love my Baskethandle and I am sure there are 993 Brothers that hate it with a passion. Hey we are all family here so lets just get along get back to enjoying our cars and sharing information and experiences to help each other. I love this place - this is heaven right?

I agree - 35 Superflux LEDs get the job done.

My 95 has the 96 style light. It has never worked in the 4 years I have owned the car, I guess it is a liability, but usually I am pulling away from other cars.

Having the basket handle is a subtle reminder to others that I have OBDI...

When I first started the 993 search, I veered from potential candidates that had this protuberance. It took Mark's wisdom to convince me that the handle was a minor point if the car itself was clean and mechanically sound. Sage advice. After 6 months of ownership, I think the handle has an endearing quality.

Cowtown,
Do you have more pics of the LED brake light? Does it adhere to the glass?

Here are some more pictures. I got the LEDs from futureelectronics - they are currently the brightest and highest-quality around, and cost about 70 cents each.

It's a circuit board slipped into interior grooves in some channel aluminum, drven by an LM317 constant-current power chip. It's attached to the rear glass with a little trim tape, and it is so thin it doesn't cut rear visibility one bit. And it's BRIGHT! Tailgating SUV drivers love it.

There's lots of geeky information at forums.hidplanet.com if you're into these types of projects.

My 96 has both also. Was this an option?
