Default Any '95 993'ers without the baskethandle third brake light?

I am about to get my RS tail painted and installed on a used (repainted) '96 2S decklid without the baskethandle. I decided to use a '96 or newer decklid because I am not a fan of the RS tail with the baskethandle.

My question is- are there any other RL'ers that have a '95 with the RS tail and no baskethandle? If so, can I get away with eliminating the third brake light? I certainly do not recall the inspection shop checking signals or brake lights the last time I registered the car.

Thanks for any insight.

Depends on state inspectors, in some states you can get away w/ it, in others not.

The installation of the roof mounted one isn't a big deal

Default my '95 doesn't have one

and i like it that way. i don't have an rs wing, though. i asked a similar question before i purchased my car and the consensus was it isn't that hard to switch from the basket handle to the top mount, you just have to fill the holes left by the handle somehow. and wiring the light again is a PIA. good luck

i'll post a pic in a minute.

FWIW, I am installing the factory upper brake light kit as well... Didn't want to chance having any issues with insurance claiming my car was not compliant therefore no coverage. If it was mostly a track car I would probaly not do this but seeing as its street driven...

Cheers;
Eric

Thanks for the great feedback. OK, so I've seen them both, RS tail with baskethandle and without. How big of a pain is the wiring process for the third brakelight? I definitely like the look of the upper brake light better than the baskethandle with the RS tail. Chris, your car looks great with the RS pieces. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but do you have the RS side skirts as well?

993James993- good point about the compliancy issue. Eric- good to see you again, your splitters are going on the car in the next few weeks. Where did you get the brake light kit from?

I've been thinking about removing my basket handle for a while, because I now have an RS tail. I think I'll just get a couple plastic caps for the holes in the decklid, and spray paint the caps yellow to match. The 3rd brakelight install procedure is the big question for me.

I was fortunate to get a late April 95 build car without the basket handle. I would never mount an RS tail with the handle installed, looks too retarded for my taste.
TheOtherEric,
You might try BumperPlugs.com for something to plug the holes in your decklid....I put them in my front bumper and also installed the door plugs too. Very small changes but they really look good.

I am so f**king tired of everyone here taking offense to me either liking or disliking something about the way certain things look on Porsches.

I think the Basket handle looks retarded period. One of the worst add on's Porsche ever did to 993's or any other 911 for that matter!

If you feel hurt because I said it looks retarded then you need to get a life and quit worrying what I think of your damn car ERIC!

Geez!.............ZP44

ZP44- You're not getting anybody riled up here, becuase we all know you're just trolling for a fight again, in typical ZP44 fashion. PM me some more and continue calling me "putz" if you want. "Putz" though I might be, when somebody says "I have Setup XXX on my car" and you follow that with "Setup XXX looks retarded" most people are gonna think that's a little rude. Shocking but true.

Eric
1) you didn't state that your car was configured in that fashion so I had no idea you would take my comment personally.
2) if I don't like that particular look and say so is my privilige, you really are the one starting crap by making the diplomacy comment to me.
3) seems like you took offense to what I said because you probably agree with me that it looks retarded when compared to a high third brake light set up with the RS tail.

Thanks for having this discussion with me, I really appreciate your sense of fair play.

Yours truly,
ZP44
