God, I admire you. I am humbled. I can't wait to do this to my car.

I'm definitely more scared of doing an engine rebuild myself now that I've followed your build. It requires special tools, extreme precision, attention to detail, and lots of time. However, I'm also more likely to attempt it with such a great documented DIY as a general guide.

Said it before, I'll say it again - you da man!

Looks great Mike!!!!! Yep the two things that get forgotten. The air deflectors, and the oil tubes. Well you got one of them. Good for you...

I used a tiny bit of Curil-T at the bases in addition to the viton O-rings. Just more insurance......

It was kindof wierd....I did remember the air deflectors fine but for some reason I thought they can be put on afterward since they are of the "new" design and not the sheet metal ones on the older cars so I ticked them off in m y brain and went ahead....I think I worked all day on the engine and was getting tired....

Not been tempted by the 9M upgrade?

Actually most of the tools you can resell when you are done (unless you plan to do another!). I am not sure about what to do with the stand etc. when the car proves itself...that alone was $400+.

No temptation for the 9M upgrage...to pricey for me at the moment. I know my engine's bottom end is very good right now so I can always swap later then its both proven and perhaps the price has come down. I am just trying to build a very reliable stock engine and perhaps went a bit overboard :-) (like doing the bottom end...I did not have to do that).

Cheers,

Mike

BTW, its been almost 3 years and 25,000KM, engine pulls like crazy, no oil leaks (knock on wood). Pretty happy with the outcome.

I dyno'ed the car after breakin, it was top of the range.

Now I've jinxed it....

Cheers,

Mike

That's the beauty of the all-aluminum engines! If assembled correctly, there really won't be any leaks for a long, long, long time.

Funny as I've fiddled with putting the 3.8 back together over the past couple of weeks, and it's been about 2 years since I've bothered to get really inside ANY 911 engine, that it's pretty amazing how evolved a 993 is versus even a 3.2.
