Default help someone save me from myself G50/21

I purchased a G50/21 with a broken bell housing. Bad enough I know, but was thinking with all the pieces it could be welded and return to service. But - upon delivery I noticed the mainshaft is bent. Now everything changes cost especially.

Oh I know how great the gear ratios are suppose to be, but I figure with the original cost of the unit, finding a used bell housing, disassembly, new mainshaft and everything I am probably going to have $7,100 in this tranny if I am lucky.

Question is - is it worth it, or just pull the plug and get a US version for $3,100 less.

I have also read the threads about regearing a box, but mine is a street rod and do not think I can justify the cost.

opinions welcomed ---

Jim

Good luck finding just the bellhousing, I was unable to locate a used housing in the USA. I also could not find a single shop in the country that knew what type of aluminum alloy the gearbox was cast from, there is a possibility of silumin? I have the ex-welding professor from a local community college reattaching the clutch ears so I guess I will find out shortly...

If you want to save yourself $3100USD try to find someone that has already had the transplant and run your car against theirs.

What about removing the internals and transfering them to your current gearbox?

This is what I would do. Sadly, the bent input shaft more than likely had the coveted slide-on second gear set

well, my project is a wide body 964 1993 with a 1995 993 engine with this newly purchased G50/21.
I guess if i found a locked up G50/21 I could if cheap enough buy and merge the two together. But 2nd gear would be US version then 3,4,5,6 would be european. Still not sure this makes sense.

What does a G50/20 with internal issues sell for?

keep those ideas coming.

Just as a data point, you can buy a factory rebuilt G50/31(993RS) transmission for ~$5800 and an exchange G50/20 w/ warantee from a dealer
