Default Corvette Z06 or Porsche

It aint me, I know better, but Im trying to convince a friend that Porsche is a sweet ride and he is stuck on the Z06. How do I convince him he's not fit for a womans car? Thats just a joke but "bang for the buck" he's convinced Vette is the way to go. His previous sports car was 95 RX7, which was a very nice when he got it in 1995.

The Z06 is a very serious driver's car. Its a bit like a GT3... more suited for track use than freeway cruising. It will be hard to find much to fault with the Z06 without picking nits. It will seriously outperform the 997 S, and unless the chevy dealer is adding ridiculous premiums, will be a good deal cheaper to boot. The Porsche will be a much more civilized car and will probably retain better resale value. But 505 HP and 3100 pounds is very addictive. Chevy has put together a great car... it may not be what we crave, but don't underestimate what they have done.

Agree with Scott. Get him in one and he'll know qiuckly if he is a p-car guy. I know a couple guys with Corvettes and they are convinced as much as we are that they own the best sportscar in the world. One drove a couple of p-cars but really was hooked on the low end torque of the C6 he bought. No offense to him as he is a friend, but he is not a Porsche guy. More impressed with 0-60 times than he is with the driving experience. I've ridden in the car and the launch is impressive. then I settled in and had the feeling I was riding in a plastic tube. To each his own.

sorry to say, but if he is buying new, he is on the right track. if you are talking a z06 to a n/a 997. dollar to hp and all the high tech the bowtie has the blue ribbon. if i were rich i'd own both, a zo6 and a p-tt

The Z06 is really a lot of car for the buck but my loyalty will always be with Porsche. ZP44

You should not be trying to convince his which car to buy...if it's not clear to him after a test drive then nothing you do or say will ever convince him.

It's a lot of car for the buck, but still looks like the Tahoe department did the interior. Exterior styling: yawn. IMO, of course.

I think he's absolutely right. Performance per dollar, the Corvette's a better car. Porsches have never won on that score.

David in LA has it... I don't think you can "convince" anyone to want any 911, 964, or 993. I think 99.99% of people will only love it if they love it before they sit in their first one. Everyone else will say it hasn't enough low end power, it rides rough, it handles goofy, it doesn't have cupholders, I can't see the a/c controls through the steering wheel, I can't reach the radio, the mirrors are offset, it takes too much oil, the wipers are too short, it makes too much wind noise, the tires wear too fast, the speedometer is in the wrong place, the engine is in the wrong place, and that they just don't "GET IT."

It Z06 is an impressive car, to say the least. I drove one and couldnt say much bad about it. My dad was Vette owner so I grew up with it. My buddy was chatting about the 0-60 and since I have known him for some time and 3.4 impresses him. Myself, Im a little more off beat when it come to vehicles. My 77 Seafoam Green Bronco Sport and my 95 C4 993 are not your everday cars. Of course in Utah, dont see a lot of Porsches. My first car was a Vette....A 77 CHEVETTE. I raced 1x against a Maverick (think it was a 3 on the tree) and beat it. Sweet 16 with back in '86 and I was king for a day and retired after that race.

BS911- I couldn't agree more. When I was comparing the pcar to the M3 & M5 I kept going back to the pcar. No fancy electronics, a lot of quirks and maintenance issues, etc. Ever since I was young I always wanted a Porsche. I decided very early on that a Porsche was the only way to go. I'll never look back and regret on the decision I made. The tough part now is to control my temptations to upgrade! Hmmm... 997S looks real nice

Great condition on that bronco!

0-60 is a really crappy way to measure the performance of any high performance car. It says less about horsepower and more about tires, gearing, and your willingness to abuse the drivetrain. I am not saying anything about the Z06... Its just my pet peeve when talking about any high performance car. Look at the MPH in the 1/4 mile, or the 60-130 time to get a feel for real HP. And, btw, the Z06 excels in both of those measurements.

i think another factor is that it seems most porsche owners are "porsche guys", and the z06 mentality is that drivetrain punishing kinda 0-60 crowd. buying new, i can see how a z06 is tempting, but i'd never buy a used corvette. just my .02
