Talking New 993 owner needs Cabriolet top adjustment help

I recently purhcased a 96 993 Black Cab my first 993 to replace my 83 sc Cab and it is off the hook sexy and wow what an amazing car to drive. It has aftermarket sound enhancement exhaust and air box and H&R Springs and I am having a hard time working because all I want to do is put the top down and go drive the back country. The 83 is a great car but pails compared to the new one and I totaly understand everyones passion for this beautiful beast. I have a couple questions and hopefully someone can help me. Upon closing the power top it tends to slam shut and I am wanting to know if this is natural or if and how I can adjust it. Also I have just one key and remote can I program this myself or is the dealer the only way, I am 200 miles from the nearest Porsche dealer.
Thanks for the help.
Todd.

The slamming shut is .... normal. A little bit of slamming is required to get the latches mated properly. However, when I close mine, I typically use my free hand to lessen the blow a bit.

You can program a key fob yourself. It is in the manual I believe.

I agree with Jeff. Nevertheless, you could always adjust it forward a bit so the seals slow it down. It's an easy adjustment; remove the carpet panels on each side in the rear area then turn the nuts on the adjustment arm. They position the cab top fore and aft.

If it's slamming shut like a guillotine, it's a problem. There was a recall on the latches that is probably still active; you should call your Porsche dealer with the VIN# and see if your car was attended to; if not, they will replace both top latches and adjust the top to work properly for you.

Congratulations . . . and welcome to Rennlist. We have an unstated rule around these parts . . . you must post up some pics of your car for the rest of us to enjoy too.

Thanks for the help guys. It has had the top lock recalls completed already, as well as valves and the wiring harness. I will get some pictures and get them posted.

You know, the PO of my 95 Cab "taught" me to catch it on the way down as well. I would forget from time to time and noticed that it wasn't coming down hard anymore. I can't say I did anything to "fix it".

While we are on the topic of "that's the way 993s are"... I was also told that it is not uncommon for the windows to rattle when going over bumps if they are fully down. Anyone else?

I haven't had that problem with my cab.

Adjust the top, pronto. Mine started slamming and before I had a chance to deal with it it stopped working on the driver's side. The damage so far - new driver's side cable, replacing some transmission-to-body attachment points... you don;t want to go there.

So, for those that have a "properly" adjusted top--how should it be closing?

Mine was slamming shut this past summer. I pulled to panels off in back and tightened the nuts on both motors. I had messed around with them earlier and I guess didn't tighten them enough. Once tight, the to closes nice and easy. It still flops a bit as it crosses the mid-point, but does not slam against the windshield frame like it did before.

I guess we all get to the same issues eventually. I just started to hear the "screen door spring sound" in my top. It also slammed down on to the windshield for the first time today. I plan on looking at the adjustment nuts on the side panels.

Thanks Chuck, it is good to know there is a fall back position if all else fails.
