OK, another data point for the archives. The Sony CDX 715 changer only worked with the original CDR 210 after the 210 had an eprom upgrade. I found the original paperwork from the changer installation. The Sony changer will not work with the CDR 220. So my options are:
1. Upgrade to a CDC 3 Porsche changer
2. Upgrade to a Becker Silverstone changer
3. Get an Ipod
4. Get a Phatbox
Anyone else know of other options for mass music storage/playback?
Thanks,
Mark
ps - got the upgraded faceplate today. Works great!

You will have to remove the cage (I had a cdr210 as well). It's pretty much plug 'n play. However, my trafficpro had an annoying "fail to initialize" gps error readout on the display until I hooked up the antenna.

Any thread or pix on installing a CDC-3 changer into a 1997 993 with a CDR-210 would be appreciated. I did not have a changer in my cab originally, and can't see a point to mount the bracket or how to thread the changer cable to the radio unit and then to plug it into the radio itself. (Just bought CDC-3, bracket, and cable on eBay.)

The many wires that rest behind the head unit will often get in the way. Get your right hand up in there and move them around while pushing in the head unit with your left hand. Worked for me.

While this is an excellent DIY, I wonder if anyone has pix for taking out the dash to put the CD changer wires for a CDR-210 to which I am only adding the CDC-3 changer (keeping the CDR-210 as is)? Is it hard? Seems impossible to thread the CDC-3 cable behind the dash to the back of the radio w/o removing the dash. I'll search for a dash removal DIY also. Thanks.

Alan993S: Its probably just a reference to the face plate that is largely unreadable when you exchange a 220 for a 210. You can get a faceplate "upgrade" and take care of the problem. When I made the change the new faceplate made a huge difference. I had no other problems.
