Default Salvage 1995 Carrera $15k

Im thinking of picking up a salvage 993 for 15k.
It drives straight, was not hit hard, only brushed on the rear quarter panel.
It needs a tug to get the wrinkle out of the qtr panel and new rear bumper.

Had it checked out by inspector and engine, interior drivetrain are not hit at all.

Thinking of selling engine for $5k and buying a 993TT engine/brain for $20k
net cost to me is $15k out of pocket plus $15k for car = $30k buys me a modded 993TT Only thing is how much time and energy is going to be spent on this project.
?? anyone??

Where is this car located? Do you have any photos?

I dont have pics. If I get some I'll post them.

If it's in Clearwater, I would suggest a PPI at Eibell Performance in St. Pete. Free PPI for local cars, and Frank's the man. I hope you are good at DIY, otherwise this little project will end up being much more than $30k! But definitely a tantalizing idea, TT-powered 993 for 30k... is it 2 or 4wd?

2wd. Im not a DIY at all, I wish I was though. Working on my cars is something I'd like to do. I live in Brasil but have some family here in the US. I'll be going back to Brasil in a week just in time for Carnaval with my cousins.

Who's going to do the engine swap? Won't be cheap at a reputable shop.

Would you mind forwarding me some information on it? I *may* be interested, ONLY if you are not. Thanks

Unfortunately, you cannot just swap engines on these cars. They are totally different. Everyone that I know that has attempted this has spent nearly as much money on the project, not to mention time, as a low-end TT. It seems to not be worth it. I would keep the car stock and enjoy it.

I'd buy it for $15k, strip it out completely, and track the heck out of it!

I respectfully disagree, piece of cake to swap actually, only problem will be the 95 harness so make sure to get the full DME harness , engine harness and DME from the TT. Do a search under my postings and You can see when I did one at my house, what it involved and how long it took etc...of course I am not a reputable shop, I dont even have a shop, just a barn/shop with a lift, dont make any money at all on cars just do them for fun. Did not have a manual or special tools, just a couple of friends, willingness to take things apart that everyone said dont and many race prep thrashes under the belt.
You will need to change the harness though so make sure You get DME to exhaust tip in Your TT purchase, also You will want the trans if You can get it but it is not necessary. If You use the stock trans, You must be easy in first gear or You will rip it to bits, other than that it is actually better geared than the TT box. Make sure to take the hydraulic clutch assist bits off the TT trans and toss them to the side. Just use Your stock 993 clutch linkage bits and retain the stock 993 power steering pump and reservoir rather than all the TT hydraulic nonsense.
Hope that helps, do the search.
Best,
G

Exactly what I'd do, too. Who cares if you stuff it into a wall? You're out less money than with a perfect car.

Exactly - heck, for $15k, you could probably stuff it into the wall, and STILL sell the salvagable parts to recover most of your money!

It is in perfect condition, just the driverside 1/4 skin and rear bumper are kinda pushed in about a couple inches. The seller is saying the insurance report states it was a hit and run in a store paring lot. How uch would it be to tug the wrinkled 1/4 skin back out/paint etc? I'll prob switch the bumper with a $650 used one since new ones are almost $2k from Porsche.

beats me, but if it is going to cost me $3k-$4k to get the body damage fixed, then i might skip this car , there are alot of clean title high mileage 993s out there for $18k-$20k, & never been hit.
