Many, many thanks to Eric and to the others who were good enough to put up the idiot proof instructions that allowed even me to do this mod!

Agreed.

Thanks for the excellent write up.

It will be a lot of fun to do this with my 10 year old son - who, for some unknown reason, thinks he's getting a 911 for his 16th birthday (he will get a used GTI or A4 and like it).

I will post before and after photos.

Harry,
I refinished mine a few years ago and painted the insides Polar Silver. Maybe something to consider?

I did those with a spray can of Polar Silver from PaintScratch, followed by Duplicolor clear. The lights still look the same now.

Wow, this thread is a blast from the past! Thanks everyone, this was a fun project yielding great results. I think Andreas' Polar Silver works great too. It might look pretty good on the darker colors as well.

Thanks again, Eric.

It just occurred to me that polar silver fogs may not work/match as well with clear signals as the "chrome" paint because the polar might be too dark/blue/grey relative to the clear signals.

You may be right. I think we need a full frontal shot of Andreas' 993.

Just look at this twice for the full effect:

I started getting a spare set ready for painting last year and it's been collecting dust.
I better get these finished. I am combining Andreas idea of the low-gloss black but with the Chrome paint finish on the lens area. Then I have the HID kit for the fogs and will order the LED bulbs for the running light. Perfect winter project.

So, are are the LED lights better for the running lights???brighter???more focal???

I'm about to search hid & fog lights...didn't know that was an option. I just read a post I found on hid for my headlights & planning on doing that. So, decided to clean up my fogs at same time

Also, why black & where if you are painting chrome on lens area??? Where else is there except lens area??? Are you talking about around the bulb?
