Default CDR 220 vs CDR 210 opines

Are there specs anywhere on these two head units? For any of you that have upgraded to a 220, is there any quality difference in the sound? Is the 220 a plug n play or do you have to cut wiring? I've searched and only found a couple of opinions on the difference. I really hate the rocker switches on the 210 and Ginger wants ***** .

Finally, does anyone have a 220 they want to unload?
Thanks,
Mark

I upgraded to the 220 and found that it sounds MUCH better... although my 210 may have had some problems because it really sounded bad.

It was a straight swap, plug n play. You do need to remove the "cage" that the 210 is installed in, then the 220 will just slide in (well, with three arms and some cursing it will). I suggest that if you're going to use the Aux-in on the 220 to run an ipod that you do it at the time of swap-out... you will not want to be removing and reinstalling the head unit over and over.

Good luck!

No real need for a radio in a 993, open the windows and enjoy the ride.

You can buy a CDR 220 from http://www.swstereo.com/. They are great people to work with. Ask for Stefan and say hello for me.

I just did this and it was quite easy. I bought it a while ago from Becker North America a www.beckerautosound.com

No issues and a pretty easy install. I'm not sure about comparing sound quality to the CDR210 as I haven't had that in the car in a while. I do recommend using an amp because these headunits have limited power to drive the speakers.

Any downside to the 220? Anyone of those who upgraded from the 210 to the 220 regret that decision?

Not from me. Some will say the Becker units don't have the sound quality of other aftermarket units and I agree, but the sound quality isn't bad at all. I mainly like the fact it looks "correct" for the car (I don't like bling) and the fact things like the DSP(?) speed controled volume still function w/ the 220, that's a big plus for me.

I got mine direct from Becker (refurb unit) which has a 1 or 2 yr warranty. Great service from Becker.

Make sure you do a serarch on "Becker CDR-220" there's lots of additional info already posted.

I found a 220 not long after I posted this and installed. Agree now that the sound quality is not outstanding, but it is better than the 210 and keeps consistent with the car's look. Plus Ginger loves her ***** .Here is a link to my "how to".

Mark: I hear you on the "bling" thing. Did you make other changes ie speakers amps, cd changer?

Jack - I got an amp and speaks from Rod at audio innovations but never installed them. Would love to, but may sell the car soon so it will prolly not go in.
