Terry,

I've had the Khumo Ecsta 712s on my Cobra. Awful. I now have Khumo Ecsta MX. Very nice. Not in the same league as the discontinued Yoko AVS Intermediates. Big difference in the Ecstas. Be careful.

I'm using the s02a's for daily driving. Works well in our 84 degree heat right now :>)

I'll be the lone lit match approaching the lake of gas....

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's all round.

I like them, they are still holding well after 10,000 miles and a few AX's too...

Pretty cheap and great in the wet/damp. Mine is all street. Maybe you wanna try my car Fred ?... after all it's the same cab/tip combo.

Thanks Steve. The ones I am considering are the 18" Kumho Ecsta SPT in 235F/295R. I'll take a look at the MX. At any rate, they will be burned up in less than 6 months on my car.

I had great results with the SO3's, for both dry and wet conditions and spirited country road runs at the foot of the mountains......have tried many including Mich. Pilots on the two 996s....and SO2's on the '98 C2S

Wow, thanks for the great responses. This is why tire threads have to be re-treaded (pun intended). BTW, the prices I was quoted are for factory spec 17" (255s on the rear) as I am running stock cups at the moment since no one wants to sell me their Speedlines - David .

Sorry, maybe not constructive, but I will never buy another set off Michelin tires due simply to the F1 fiasco at Indy.

My PZero experience on my 986S was mixed. The N3 had great grip, but were noisy when they got older, the N4 was quieter but not quite as grippy in Malibu Canyon.

Many do not like the Sport Contact 2, but I really liked mine, compliant ride, quiet, and had a predictable breakaway, albeit slightly less grip than PZero.

I went from 225F/285R SO2s to Michelin PS2s in 235F/295R. Amazing improvement in handling, quietness and improved ride as well. My autocross times improved significantly plus they do not go away when they get hot like the Bridgestones did. Another benefit of the PS2s is the wheel protection band on the sides.

Maybe the SO2As are better than the S02s, but isn't it just a different tread pattern?

I did a lot of reading on Rennlist recently and narrowed it down to PSO2A's and Michelin PS Rib for my primarily street driving. I went with the Michelin PS Ribs because according Tire Rack the PS02A's have a treadwear rating of 140 and the Michelin Pilot Sport Rib is 220.

By their definition "The treadwear rating is very simple. The higher the number, the longer the tire will wear. For example a 100 tire vs. a 200 tire, the 200 tire will give you twice the wear of the 100."

I know that tread wear is only one of many factors to consider, but since they both got great reviews here, I went with the one that may last a little longer.

Had them shipped to a local installer and get them installed Monday.

i also use Michelin PS2. they are quite nice. SSR's no longer made? i have heard this before, but the suppliers i've talked to (including tire rack) say they are not only still made, but a relatively new tire. i bought a set last year and would buy another this year for the track- if they still make them. there is still some confusion here though. if anyone has a definitve answer here, this would be good.

I went from SO3s to the Goodyear F1 GS-D3s on my BMW, and really liked them after I got used to the softer shoulders on the F1s ... plus the wear rating was 280 if I recall?

I have SO3s on my 993, and so far like them a lot better than I did on the M3 where they tramlined like crazy??

My understanding is that tire rack is not selling them anymore due to the tire being discontinued. When I called last week they still had some fronts in stock (235's 18's) and one pair of rears (265 18's) but they were selling the rears for $335 a tire!!! The SSR's used to be the steal of the tire world ( If I remember correctly the rears used to sell for $129 per). Maybe I got some misinformation... I hope so.

I have PS2's but at over $1100 for the set, mounting and balancing I'll probably not buy them again. Quite and smooth ride on the road - I'll try the Goodyear Eagle's or the Ecsta MX next time for my mostly dailudriver useage. As we have noted in the thread - rain isn't a big concern in So. Cal.
