Licence plate secrecy?
I've often wondered why some people blank out the licence plate on photos of their car. Surely as soon as you drive down the street, Joe Public gets to see it anyway?
Or am I missing an important point here?

Trolling theives could potenitally track down your exact home location using your license plate and target your high $ vehicle. While I know this is not typical behavior of Rennlisters, we are on the web and open for all the world to see. I think most feel a little safer blanking out the plate - I know I do.

Hi Eric, you've been busy with your avatar lately. I like this one because we get to see your gorgeous wheels. What are they?
I take your point. However, I'm not so sure it's very easy to get access to that data in the UK though - thankfully.
But then if someone was looking to find, in our case, a 993 to steal, they could simply buy Autotrader (I think you have that in The States don't you?) find one local to them and then pose as a potential purchaser? Or find one on Ebay, and do the same thing. Or simply follow you home one day.
I guess you are, wisely, simply reducing the risks.
Take care, Steve.

There was a recent post in the 944 thread from a police officer about the issue. Says that the person can see your car anywhere, go the the police department and say that you did a hit and run on them, but they got the license plate. The police are then required to give you the person's contact info, so in theory they could go to your house and steal your car. He said that they can also, through some process, file at the DMV for a duplicate title and sell the car out from under you, which takes months to get straightened out. Just thought i would pass it along, it is all news to me.

I never bother whiting out my lic plate and never had a problem. Guess I'm a trusting sort coming from a small town in Pennsylvania. Most people do white theirs out and more power to em'. I happen to like my plate, and am proud to "show it off".
Here ya go you scammers, sleazebags, thieves - come and get it
Keep in mind though, my garage is wired with 10000 volts of electricity on the doors and windows, motion detectors, 2 dobermans, trip wires, and a loaded shotgun.
