Default HIFI Sound Amplifier Repair or replace?

Can anyone suggest a place to either get a 96 C4S HiFi sound amp repaired or replaced? Also what model/year cars are compatible??

Without any diagrams of the amp my local hif repair place won't touch it. I have a distorted channel which my guess is the amp.

My amp part number is Nokia 206Z 49134 71175 993.645.301.01

Or who has upgraded the amp using the Porsche head unit. I do n ot want to change the head unit.

Any help or leads would be appreciatted.

If anyone has an amp to sell contact me at email1@bob-silver.com

Thanks,

Bob

I did the DSP upgrade and saved the stock one in a box in the attic.
PM me if interested.

I would try swapping up the speaker(s) from one channel to another before you go down the amplifier road - typically the speaker is the weakest link.

If you want mine, it's free to any new or longtime Rennlist member. Just let me make sure i still have it at home before I promise anything.

p.s. are you SURE it's not just a blown speaker? That would be my first guess, FWIW.

Default Amp replacement

That would be great and very generous. BTW is your car a coupe?

I am certain it is not speaker. The amp is distorted. At times it clears up and sounds fine. Speakers are either good or bad. Not intermitten. A possible issue would be a loose connection but at the amp level all was fine or the head unit could be bad. The amp is the most usual suspect in cases like this. Best I can do is give an new amp a try.

Thanks again. Please get back to me at bobsilver@mail.com

I'll check tonight. BTW, yes my car is a coupe (see my avatar pic to the left there) but I'd be surprised if it made any difference in which amp is installed.

Well Porsche has made what should be simple (an amp) very hard. There are 3 different part numbers for coupes, cabs and targas. The dealer parts people don't know what if any difference exists. But coupe to coupe regardless of year should be fine.

Thanks again.

I wonder if Targas and Cabs have more watts to compensate for anticipated higher level of road noise?
Or if they are tuned differently to adjust for different interior surfaces/materials?

Bob- Sorry but I just tore thru my garage looking for my amp and I must have thrown it out during our recent move.

97Targa- do you still have that extra amp?

Yep. I still have one. I didn't dig it out last night but it's still available.

Thanks all. I found an amp from a 95 coupe that I can buy. Issue is not sure that it is my problem and the seller has a no returns policy. I will go ahead and get that since I can't find what is different from the coupe, targa or cab amps. This will be my safest bet.

You guys have been great and I really appreciate it! I have never had such great support from anything!
