Question Rim offset 1994-993

Hi,

Will someone please clarify my rim offset my handbook says 55mm front & 70mm rear but people keep telling that this is incorrect regarding the rears and it should be 50mm for the rears.Im very confused

Thanks

That depends on what size the rim width is that people are refering to. For example, an 18 x 10 for the 993 (narrow body) rear should be 65mm and for the wide body rear, should be 40mm.

Tell us the wheel type and sizes front and back and we'll be able to figure it out.

OEM 17" wheels have a 55mm offset on both 7" front and 9" rear wheels.

If you have stock wheels, the width and offset should be cast into the wheel on either side of the valve stem.

Pete,

Are they OEM wheels? 70mm on the rear of a C2 w/ 17" wheels does sound off... but then, I could be wrong... wouldn't be the first time.

Perhaps someone with a targa will chime in to give you info from their car.

It's definitely not 50mm so those "people" are wrong. What are you trying to do? Other than for your curiousity, does it matter? As long as your wheels fit and there is no rubbing the only time you need to be concerned about the offset is if you are selling the wheels or ar looking to buy new ones. Sorry can't be of more help...I assume you are referring to your stock 5 spoke two piece targa wheels?

In researching wheels and tires over the last few months, I've come across quite a bit of info, hopefully this little bit will help you out:

http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id={389561CF-0369-40BE-B293-559BB9305DAC}

I don't know how to do the cool 'link hidden behind a word' trick.

Hope this helps.

Earliest 993´s (at least some ´94 euro models as mine) with 17" Cups had 9 x 17 rears with ET 70.
At some point (´95?) the rear offset was changed to 55, which certainly looks nicer as it fills the rear arches better than ET 70.

Pete,
As far as I know, 993 17” wheels have 55 mm offset on both front and rear, fwiw mine are original wheels ordered from factory 1/94.

Regards
Alex
