lubricating ISV assembly - what do you use?
Hi,
just cleaned the ISV on my 95 C2, following the instructions on p-car.com.
What, if anything do you use to lubricate the rotating assembly inside the ISV? I was gravitating toward either WD-40 or Silicone spray.
Disclaimer: I don't mean to start a religious war over the "right" lubricant. Just what others have found to work well. I am worried that using the wrong lubricant could lead to the assembly gumming up quickly due to the ambient heat.
Thanks

Hi Alex,
I haven't done this DIY-er yet, but I'd never use WD40 ...just not a good lube and attracts dirt/grit like crazy. Given the two choices, definitely go with the Silicone spray. It's cleaner and stays dry. Perhaps one who's already done this can chime in?

I just did this on a buddies car. Since this guy see's a lot heat (soak) being on top of the engine, I would clean and let it remain dry. WD40 is water based and would last long. Dry is my vote

NEVER USE SILICONE ON ANY PART OF THE INTAKE OR ENGINE unless it specifically says on the bottle/tube/package "Oxygen Sensor safe". You will kill the O2 sensor within a few miles of driving. For any low-durometer rubber or plastic that isn't an o-ring stick with isopropyl or rubbing alcohol as a lubricant (this tip came from my sales/engineer rep at Dow-Corning) It dries very quickly and leaves no residue.

Yeah, brake cleaner cleans the yuk out but then evaporates leaving no lubricant....that is exactly what I did.....I used nearly a whole can the first time I cleaned it!!!!

dry it will be
Thanks for all the replies.
I will leave it dry as the assembly is moving freely after having been cleaned with carb cleaner.

This is what we do on Saabs:

Looks like my Saab 900 uses the same part.
