When people ask, "What do you drive?"

I usually say " A blue one" and if they press further, I do the whole 993 last of the mohicans air/oil cooled sermon .......and within a second or two they flee in terror
I know I'm evil, but I cannot help myself, it's fun

Race Car
A 10 year old VW.
Not really, I usually tell them about my daily driver... a Mercedes. If they press further I will tell them that it has almost 500 HP, if they press even further then I tell them about the 993. Too much information for most people.

Here's my response
"A tired old used 911, I tinker with on the weekends, but then again I have no kids"

I usually answer with "Porsche 911". Only a gearhead would be interested in the gruesome details, which I'm more than happy to provide, and watch their eyes glaze over as they glance for a way out.
BTW, I've had several Porsche owners ask me if "RUF" are my initials or something (license plate says "FAST RUF". Yea gads... what's the world coming to?

Funny enough, I rarely get asked that question. But when I do I just tell them that it is a '96 911. Unless the person is a car enthusiast, the conversation usually ends right there.

I almost never hear this question outside of p-club gatherings/events. In this area, it appears that most of the people couldn't care less what you drive, or what you think about what they drive.

Awesome thread. Usually I say, "Oh, just a small, older sportscar... so, how bout that weather today? It's beautiful outside isn't it? What's new with YOU?"
It gets me a little nervous when I'm around a new person and they ask what I drive? It's like I'm afraid that they'll prejudge me in a way if they knew I had a 993, so I sometimes try to skirt the exact nature of what I drive.
Invariable they might not let me off the hook so easy... "Uh, what KIND of old sportscar?"
Me: "Uh, it's an older 911 that I got for a song on the internet. So, how's the family? How's the job? How's YOUR car running... seen that last Redskin's game?"
