Barfing - Ugly mess!
Oil, that is.
Since my ownership of almost 5 years, I have heard about the barfing of oil out the filler tube from quite a few, and so I have been careful from day one. Well now I'm not only feeling like a bit of a doof, but I'm genuinely confused, as well. Yesterday, I brought up the oil level about .5 quart to where the dipstick read about 3/4 ...done this for years. So off I drove to my in-laws, driving up a hill which is kinda fun when you nail the throttle and feel some G's. Well that was it. At the top of the hill, my car was smoking that tell-tale oil-smelly funk. Pop the lid and man what a mess! Obvious purge from the filler cap ...ugh! The strange/lame thing is that I have tracked the car for years with the level at 1/2-3/4 and never had this happen. The steep hill + WOT, maybe? Who knows. Oh well, just thought I'd share, and offer "some" word of caution. Keep that level on the lower side ...it's a safeguard against half a roll of paper towels and an hour of your life

Hmmm, so you think that maybe it wasn't the .5 quart addition as much as it was the cap not seated fully? Great. Now I feel like an even bigger doof.
Thanks, guys!

Since oil caps have been known to pop loose (or not seated properly), it would be a great idea to safety wire that sucka on. A few zip ties or a hose clamp around the tube, then drill a very small hole into the cap skirt and wire it up. Just makes adding oil a little more time consuming..

This has not happened to me but it happened to my dad in his old type 3 VW just after a service at VW.
He was told it was a blocked breather vent, once cleaned it never happened again.
I wonder if this may be related?
