She has been stolen
Uh, I'm kind of in a state of shock right now, but I just went to my condo's parking garage and my car is gone. Poof. No broken glass, no evidence, just gone.
I've called the police and AAA where I have my insurance to start the process. Anyone with any advice, tips, etc. on what to expect, avoid, how to establish its value, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
This is entirely depressing. I've had her for approximately 60,000 smiles and I was about to take her to Callas Rennsport on Thurs. for a checkup...
Thanks in advance.

This may be a bit premature, but keep an eye on eBay for parts of your car. I am sure thieves move quickly.
This truly sucks big time! I guess one would want it recovered quickly with no damage, or never to be seen again. Getting car back damaged is no good..
Sure hope things work out for you!

So much for the immobilizer... I thought these cars were really hard to steal? WTF? I am terribly sorry for your loss. It's certainly like a beloved family member in a way.
I parked in Metro parking garage in Silver Spring MD today for the first time in a year or so, late at night, leaving it in a section that was completely empty to take metro downtown. When I got to the garage I had this weird feeling that it had been stolen or vandalized. Luckily, it was still sitting there all alone, freakishly alone, and it was fine. I couldn't imagine if someone had keyed it up really bad or ever worse, stolen it.
This is very bad... hope you here something soon.

Brook,
I'm so shocked and sorry to hear that. I've always admired your car since my early Rennlist days. Oh boy, I'm so sorry.
Hope you'll recover her fast and relatively undamaged.
Wishing you all the luck.

That is horrible news. As you know, if the insurance company decides to pay you off, they will attempt to low-ball the amount. It's up to you to start documenting the prices of competitive 993 C2S... there aren't that many on the market to help. But they will try to use KBB, so be careful.
I'd be interested in finding out how they snatched it, so we could better protect our cars.
Good luck... I hope it works out for you. You must be ill over this.

Bloody damn shame.......
All these bastards have to do is bring in a flat bed...Immobilizer wont go off. LoJack can help, maybe...the downside of LoJack, at least the old models, you, the owner need to notify the police. If you are out of town for the weekend...a lot can go on in 2 or 3 days....see the text in Red below.
LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System: A small, silent transmitter hidden in your vehicle allowing the police to track it if it's stolen.
LoJack Early Warning Recovery System: The new auto security system that contacts you if someone is moving your vehicle without your permission. This one look interesting to me.
I hope you get your car back very soon, with no damage.

Thanks for the kind words and support, everyone, it really means a lot. I've already been thinking about the upgrades I have to document for my talk with the insurance company tomorrow and I keep surprising myself as I remember . . . HIDs, suspension, built-in V1, radio, clutch, armrest, etc.... Aaargh.
For those familiar with L.A., it was taken out of my condo garage in Brentwood on the Westside. I still can't believe it was stolen -- I don't remember hearing of one being stolen with the drive block system. I even checked to make sure I still had my extra key to see if someone had been in my condo to steal that as a means to get the car, but I still have it.
Anyway, thanks again for all the support. Part of me keeps hoping I'm going to wake up tomorrow and remember I parked it at a friend's house . . . but unfortunately that's not the case...

Brook, so sorry to hear that. Yours is a beautiful car. I know how you feel. My 1981 911SC was stollen shortly after I bought it new in '81. I went to my parking space in the twin towers in Century City and all that was there was the frame and gasket from the small side window behind the driver side door. I still have the frame and gasket. -Lee.

sorry to hear that, although in LA it seems all too common. I suspect it will either be in Mexico soon or will be butchered at a chop shop. I heard from some fellow porsche owners that there is a very strong market for stolen parts. I even recall reading a story (many years ago) of the butcher shops that supply the parts to porsche repair houses and get top $$$ for the parts.
I hope you are able to find a replacement 993 soon.
Cheers,
Boris
