radar detectors
#32
I have a V1. I cannot compare it to others as my previous detector was of a mid 80's product which I used in Australia until detectors were banned there in most states. In Hong Kong where I now live, I would recommend the V1 over not having a detector. However, for the main form of speed detection here, fixed cameras which are "instant on", I am finding that even with cars in front of me crossing the movement detector which turns the radar on, I usually get no warning from the V1 until I cross the thing myself. Most of our cameras are sign posted, and I now make sure of my speed when going past the camera. Maybe in the US you have more mobile patrols and not so many of the type of radar we have in Hong Kong. I will have to read an article I have on UK speed cameras, which look very much like the ones in HK, so that I know what type of radar we have here.
All the best.

I have also had a V1 for over 5 years and love it.
Here is an easy way to wire your V1 up high on the windshield: Buy an "add-a-fuse" (see picture below) and plug it into a switched power source in the fuse box. Then run the wire down below the fusebox toward the passenger-side base of the windshield. There is a pass-through hole for the radio antenna line that you can use to get the wire up to the top of the dash inside the car. Then just tuck wire into the rubber sealing trim and run it up to the point above the rear-view mirror. This is a nice low-profile setup. I have a remote display from an old installation, but do not feel it's necessary in this car, unless you don't want others to see the readout. Hope this helps.

V1 also....it might look dated and suffer a few falses but it has never let me down in detecting the enemy.....on my usual route there are a few false alarms but I know them now and anything else makes me aware....incidentally dont know if anybody else mentioned it but V1 also do upgrades on their software for minimal cost...you just send the unit back and they upgrade to the latest version....back in two days and cost...hmmmm I think it was $50.....the stealth also looks easily done...I just have not done it yet...

Seeing as how I asked if a group buy was possible, I took responsibility to ask Mr. Valentine.
V1s are not sold through stores - only directly, so there is no discounting...and when you have the best product on the market, why would you?
I respect Mr. Valentines decision, so fella's save up your money and buy from the source.

I'm happy with the performance of my Passport 8500.
Pros: Very few false alerts, less expensive.
Cons. No arrows indicating the direction of the threat.
The co-pilot keeps her eyes open and watches the on ramps and side of the road for the man.
