Both the V1 & 8500 work almost exactly the same. The V1 does have the arrows that shows you where the bears are, but the 8500 was the overall winner of the radar detector shootout. The Ka band is what all the CHP’s use and these two rate the same on Ka. To me the V1 arrows are meaningless because when the Ka goes off I throw the anchor out and hope for the best. I’m currently using the 8500 and it has saved me several times. Once, I doing over a hundred when it went off, I slowed down and sure enough a chippie was coming right at me. He flipped a u-turn and followed me for over 75 miles. He did not get me because by the time he had a visual ID I was down to the speed limit. Fun stuff, technology at its finest.
