I was a little confused when on reading the manual for a new Yamaha F80 4 stroke outboard motor, it stated to let the motor idle for 3 minutes before setting off. These motors have the latest computer controlled EFI. What gives here, I know its an outboard, but ........

Is it a water cooled two stroke? If so, it is good advice. The two stroke combustion cycle puts more heat into the pistons because of the two power strokes per revolution and leaves less time for cooling. So in a water cooled motor during a cold start, the cylinders have much more cooling capacity that the pistons and the heavy load due to marine use can cause the pistons to heat faster than the cylinder bores. This could cause a seized piston...not good.
