Steve:

Your excitement comes right through the computer screen. Totally understandable. After seeing those pictures, I want a full repaint for my car now, too!

And muffler bypasses? I hope you've built up some goodwill with your neighbors. Geez, what a monster Rufus is going to be.

Thanks for sharing, and keep those progress pictures coming.

When my body shop installed my SW, they had to take the car to a Porsche dealer to hook up the air bags. I didn't know why, but that did happen. That costed me 2 days.

Dave,

Don't forget... my car started with 100k miles, some crappy repaint on the fender, a dent on the roof (from the trucking company), a torn door check strap, and a crappy paint job on the cowl. The Ruf CTR front bumper was damaged in a skirmish with a concrete parking stop, and the hood and fenders had many, many rock chips. In short... it was begging for some attention. Waldo was way prettier, as I'm sure your car is. Normally... a front bumper respray every 4 years or so is all that is required to keep them looking pretty good.

CP,

Unless there is something weird with the Ruf wheel, steering wheels and airbags should NOT be a problem. If you start the car without an airbag, you get the warning light, and putting the airbag on will not reset the light... you gotta clear the code. We'll see how this goes... I hope I don't need to see the local dealer (Rusnak)... they won't touch a modified car... won't even change the oil!

CP:

It is likely the bodyshop counted on having to reset the airbag light using a "hammer" once the airbag was removed.

If you're lucky drawing down the voltage in the system, you can sometimes "sneak" the airbag unit in and out without tripping the airbag control unit fault.

Just a FYI...

Steve, this is great news. Progress is always a good thing! Cant wait. Since the turbocharger does supress engine noise (somewhat), the bypasses might be the ticket.

Chris,

These are the bypasses I saved from Waldo... where they sounded great. But Waldo had the stock cats, and Rufus has the 100 cell cats. So Rufus will be somewhat louder than Waldo was. I have my fingers crossed that it won't be horrible.

The owner of EPR Collision (Ed Palmer) is doing most of the work on my car himself... he is a Porsche nutball... like the rest of us. He is a perfectionist, and will have that nasty front bumper fitting perfectly. He noticed that the screens on the bumper didn't all match, so he is going to rescreen them. Here is where it is tonight (Friday):

Hi Tony,

When will your car be together? If I plan to hook up with Steve say October 22 or 29, or November 5, can you join?

No time set yet, just testing the water.

Its obvious from these pictures that those guards red brake calipers have to go. I'm thinking of yellow, with Ruf decals. Anybody know if Ruf sells those decals or stencils? I'm a Ruf-aholic.

Steve,

Actually Brembo makes the calipers for RUF. You can buy big red calipers from Brembo with the RUG logo on them. The powder coating and logo painting are on your own.

ViperBob discovered this littel gem for me when he did my brakes. He got me the calipers, had them powder-coated black, and my body shop hand painted it the RUF gold color.

Now you know the drill. Please go make it happen.

CP,

I hope to have my car back by October 22 or 29 however I will be on a cruise to Mexico from the 22nd to the 29th. If it works out for you and Steve Nov 5th will work for me... What a day that will be to see your RUF and RUFUS together.

Here is a photo of another Ruf Turbo R conversion. If those are 19" wheels, than those are definetly bigger brakes than my big reds. But that is the "look" I want, without actually buying the bigger Brembos. This is NOT a project I'm considering right now.

Steve (not me),

I think the body guy is going to Home Depot or something like that to get fresh and matching screens. And yes, the rear bumper also has the gills. I bought the rear bumper new from Weissach.
