Default DME RELAY FAILURE POLL

I'm curious to see what the DME relay failure rate is among 993 Rennlist members.

Then I can determine if I really need to put one in the glove box or I can wait for the sky to fall.

Your participation is greatly appreciated......ZP44

i haven't had a failure but i do have an extra with the car at all times. you can get one on ebay for pretty cheap. i'd rather have a $35 part laying around when i need it than to have to get towed in to a shop and reamed for a few hundred.

Understood, but, I need you to use to poll so I can get a real idea how often the DME relays fail.

Thanks.....ZP44

This thread is apparently talking about the DME RELAY...

The DME is something entirely different and they dont fail often.

If you need to poll to determine if you should buy a $25 part that can leave your car totally disabled, which has failed numerous times in the past, I vote you wait to find out.

Why would you even question whether you need one when others have shared their unfortunate experiences with this part and the misery it can cause when it does go bad?

Just chalk it up as one of the "charms" of owning a 993, buy a spare (or don't) and move on.

Good luck

I didn't need the poll Kelly, I wanted to do it. Is there something else you wanted to know?

You might also want to check to poll results with almost 80% of 993 owners responding never having a failure....."Just the Facts" nothing more

Which translates into a 20% failure rate.

Don't know about you, but with my luck I would be the one in five that would be stranded from a bad relay if I failed to have a spare.

Like I said, good luck.

I'm with Kelly on this...result of any poll is irrelevant for practical purposes IMHO. Even if you conclude that 98% of the respondents never had a DME relay failure, when and if it ever happens to you, you will not care that the probability was "only2%". Instead you will be pissed that you could have avoided being stranded at the side of the road had you had ponied up and just bought a spare.

For $25-35 why bother taking any chances?
