How did he isolate the problem? Could he be wrong?
At this point, I'd take it to another mechanic, w/o saying anything about what the first mecahnic has said, to see if the the second opinion results are the same.
Good luck... doesn't sound like happy times.

Kkim is right, take a second opinion. He told you anyway to continue and see if it becomes worse. So don't rush to decisions, take your time!
Your explanations are quite clear, but just to confirm: this doesn't "clonk" on a bad road if you keep a steady speed? I had that, and it was a loose screw on a "silent block".
Where are you in Belgium by the way?

Thanks for all replies.
Made some phonecalls today. Feel a bit better.
Called ZF Belgium here and they do not rebuild anymore but can deliver a "new" revised gearbox on an exchange basis. Cost depends on the model, can vary between 1000 and 3000 euro.
Called up some gearbox specialists. They can diagnose the exact problem and repair te necessary parts or worst case scenario also 3.000 euro for a exchange revised one.
Damn the Porsche dealers are crazy, 9000 euro for the same thing.
Feel somewhat better.
Toga, bad roads is not a problem. The mounts were checked, all OK.
I am from Grimbergen, US rennlisters may know the name by the excellent beer named after my town ! Cheers!
I want to thank Gert Carnewal too. Explained him my problem and he was willing to help and look for a cheaper solution than the dealer thieves.
Gonna see a few specialists and ask for diagnose. To be continued...

Mmm Grimbergen! I work in France, and that beer is quite popular there too.
Sky is clearing up above your problem! Good news. I know Porsche is expensive, I replaced a while ago the bulbs inside the speedometer. The OPC sold them 4 times the price of a normal shop!!!!!!!!!
Now you know what will be your "winter project"! If you need help feel free to ask.
Tot sins!

From 9000 to 3000 -- still sad to see you've got a $$$ problem but looks like you're making good progress on the cost! It's very scary going into the largely unexplored territory of tiptronic problems, but at least you have help along the way...
