Question Third brake light bar bulb replacement

Hi there...my 1995 Cab's third brake light has some (I think 5) "dead" light bulbs and I'm willing to replace them...I can feel two screw holes under the brake light bar but I don't know how to reach them...anybody did that before? Should I remove the whole light bar in order to replace the bulbs...any advices?

Thanks in advance as usual...

Pedro,

Here is a DIY article on p-car.com. It is for a coupe but it applies for a Cab as well. Different location, that's all.

Others here have replaced ALL of the bulbs with LED's so they'll never burn again. Do a search and yoiu'll find the post with the step by step pictures.

Here is DIY from Robin's site...

Right on my friend...thanks a lot...when I saw your answer, by the avatar, I thought I was answering my own question!!! ;- )

Considering they are 10 years old bulbs (probably)...maybe is time to replace all of them (24 total)... maybe a whole Sunday job! Got to see how long it will take for each bulb and better not have too many drinks on Saturday night in order to keep the hand steady for the soldering...

Take care...

It's pretty easy Pedro, but I wouldn't try to get to all of them... just replace the blown ones and put it back together. Once you've done it once, you won't stress when you have to get in there to do another.

Cheers and good luck.

Pedro,

It's a piece of cake. Took me 15 min to do it. A tip though, when you go to remove the old bulbs, use a soldering iron to heat the solde , then slide the bulb out. Then you can slide the new one in & lightly solder it in place.

Maybe our cars were separated at birth. My car lived all its life in Key West until I bought it from the previous owner. I'll try the heater this winter...I bet it's the only thing that is "brand new" on this car!

I have a burnt bulb as well...maybe I'll get to it this weekend as well. We have to keep the "twins" happy...

Let me know how it went.

Hi Guys;

The DIY on P-CAR is for the upper spoiler light and for the most part similar however I believe Pedro really wants to know if you have to remove the basket handle from the decklid in order to be able to access and remove the light strip from the basket handle housing.

Pedro, I believe the answer is yes to this question, you have to remove the spoilier from the decklid in order to release the light strip and get at the bulbs.

Yes, it would be the easiest way. There is only 2 screws that holds the basket handle in place.

Here is also another excelent write-up by "Scott C" to compliment Robin's DIY.

If you are inclined to do the LED replacement...(I am thinking about it) here is the DIY
