996 sports seat install update
After a couple of days of sorting, here is the final product. What do you think? Passenger seat installed and electric back recline hooked up and working. I will install the drivers side seat tomorrow and post the write up. Actually after doing the first seat is not really too difficult although it does take some time. I must have had the seat in and out at least 15 times.

Hey Al,
I too have installed the 996 sport seats, but they sit a little too far forward. What have you done to fix that issue. Did you just drill new holes? I would like to fix the issue before I sell her so that someone bigger than 5'9" can fit in there. Thanks
Michael

Good job. They look good. All those tools in the fronts seat is hilarious. Looks like you threw everything you had at the install. I can't quite make out the butter knife, but based on my own experiences I'm pretty sure it's in there.

I can't wait to see your write-up, Al.
On a related note, how much are 996 sport seats going for these days? I watched a pair sell on eBay for $1,700 recently. But when I checked LA dismantlers, they quote $3,500-$4,000 for a set. That's waaaay too much for me.

how did u deal with:
1- power adaptors are different
2- 996 seats tend to sit too high on the rails.
thanks for posting this.. ive asked soooo many people (including a very top porsche shop in CT) and everyone says the seats will fit, but it doesnt work out.

Jim, you are right, maybe I should have removed the tools before the pics
Bill, the seats came with the guards red painted hard backs and also the red stiching.
Leland Pate, it seems the seats are going for around 1500 to way over 2000. If you look around you should be able to find a set at a reasonable price. Let me know if you need a pair, I have a couple of leads on a few sets.

Before I post the install. I would like to install the drivers side today (weather permitting). I want to be sure I do not run into any issues. I am guessing it should be the same as the drivers side.

Hi Al,
Great job on tackling the first seat, and the plunge for the rest of us! How do the 996 Sport seats feel compared to the stock 993 seats? They look great, but it's hard to say how much additional support they offer from the photo.
Have fun with the drivers seat...and look forward to photos of the completed project!

Freier,
The drivers seat is in and operating. I am 6ft tall and approx 225lbs I find that I fit better in the sport seats then the all electric seats. The Sports seats do sit a little higher due to the cushion design? and the way the track retainer pins have to operate. Compare to the original seats, set at its lowest point, the sport seats sit approx 3/4 of an inch higher or so. To me it did not make that big of a difference. I still have plenty of head room even with a full face helmet on. I did retain full horizontal travel. I will try to post the install with a few pics a little later on this evening.

MichaelM, If you look under the carpeting on the rear inboard mounting hole you will find an other hole. This is one of the holes I used to mount the rears. How did you mount your seats?

Specialy having the exterior color on the seat backs!!
Hey, that's a good idea to have a tool compartment in front of the passenger seat!!
