Default "anti theft" question

Hi,

Going on holiday and want to remove the DME relay as an extra anti theft.

Is there any kind of problem removing the DME relay for several weeks ?

Thanks,

Very clever idea. I don't see any harm, as nobody has reported any problems when replacing a failed DME.

This would be interesting to know. Though, when they can't steal it, they will probably trash/destroy it and either way you lose

Just not right.

No harm except for the fact that all of us now know how to steal it

Have a great holiday.

Seems like a great idea to me. Most crooks wont stick around long enough to find out why a car wont start.

Takeout the actual DME controll unit under the seat if you are going for a while, that will really stump them!

Winning time is the actual purpose.

Guess "small time" crooks give up once they can not get the car started but I guess the "pro's" know the cars better than most of us.
Thanks for your help. I ll remove the DME during my absence.

Damn, I m gonna miss a little ride around town.

All the best,

Exactaly.

P.S. Thanks for the idea. I'll use it when I have to leave my 993 behind on vacation.

Please observe proper etiquette when posting on the internet that you will be away from home: provide dates, your address, and in which flower pot you hide the extra house key.

Seriously, you don't leave your car parked outside, do you? If it's in the garage, I'd be more worried that they've made it into my house than whether they steal my car (assuming garage attached to house). Better they hotwire the car and *leave* than they give up on the car and ransack the house looking for jewelry or whatever.

It shouldn't hurt anything but I think the immobolizer will stop them unless they find your keys. A few weeks ago some idiots popped my door and ignition keyways but left because it was immobolized and wouldn't fire. I had a cut-off switch on the hood and I"m guessing they turned it on after they popped open the door setting off the alarm! Idiots....

Better protection would be to chain the car to the garage or heavy tool box, table saw, another car, etc.....Also lock your garage opener closed with a padlock on the chain....then there's always a 50amp, 240V circuit to the door handles.....

Yep. That would be a SHOCKING experience.
