Question Windshield delamination question.

Hi there...there's a car I'm really interested (1995 Cab) but it's suffering of "Windshield delamination" problem...two round spots like fungus, 3" diameter, on each lower corners...I did read it could be caused by the hard ride of the 18" wheels (car has 18"wheels). Question is: How bad can it get ? Anybody with this kind of delamination problem? Other than that, car is a low mileage beauty...I'd appreciate any feedback regarding this delamination issue.

Thanks a lot...

Had delamination in one of the corners on my 964 with factory wheels and no other modifications. My understanding is that this is just a glass defect and is unrelated to other issues. It just kept growing, so I replaced the windshield, and no more problem…

Thanks for the feedback Bill...

Just for the records...the information I got regarding "hard ride" causing delamination came from Randy Leffingwell's book "Porsche 911 - Buyer's guide"- page 212...

Take care...

I had that problem and then got nailed by a rock so insurance covered the replacement. The installer stold me it was because the windsheild (replacement) wasn't sealed in the gasket and water got into the groove, heated up and caused it.

Of course my shop guy told me that Porsches are supposed to be "dry" in the gasket. So you decide.

brand new windshield costs about $700. i would not let it scare you away from a car you otherwise love.

I'm not sure how it works in other states, but here in MA insurance will replace your windshield no questions asked, I think a maximum of once a year. My GTI's winshield got peppered by a sand truck on the way back from VT (luckily I had the full bra protecting the front end) and insurance had no problems replacing it, even though it wasn't cracked. Might be worth looking into before shelling out your own $$$ for the repair
