Default Any update on the Cab top motor recall?

Hi all

I searched and the best thread on the top motor recall is "Cabriolet top motor recall issue".

Any update on this on the replacements?

Are the replacement motors fine?

I have to get the car into the dealer, and figured I'd have the recall done with the other work.

TIA

I took my MY98 cab in for the recall in early June...haven't driven it much since then but the top was working perfectly the few times I drove it.

I took mine in a couple months ago, the recall came just as the top quit working. They fixed it and realigned the top with no charge. It has worked well since.

Seems like a no-brainer to me... Top sounds like it closes with more security that it did before...

Not that I put the top up much here in SoCal anyway.

yeah... big turtle-->

the new motor is fine. use my top almost everyday... much more solid in operation & surprisingly less noise, overall seems like a much more solid hold. don't have any noise @ all w/ top up. (i.e. the ocassional spring sfx etc) & it's more forgiving on unlevel ground as well.

get her done

thanks guys, I appreciate the info.

The dealer here said the problem before was availability of all the parts needed.

He says he has them all on hand, so it's going in thursday.

Looking forward to losing the occasional Screen Door Spring SFX, 24fps, lol

I had mine done about a 2 months back. Prior to the recall, the right side would never lay down flush with the window frame and at speeds over 70mph, it would make quite a lot of wind noise. I took it to a non-Porsche convertible specialist once who tinkered around with it all day and eventually said it couldn't be adjusted because the motor was at fault! I decided to live with it at the time but the recall motor replacement resolved it once and for all. Now it looks great and seals much better.

One thing I recommend Cab owners pay attention to is the wiring harness routing along the right side of the top. If you stop the top about 1/2 way open, you can inspect the harness. Mine had worn almost completely through 2 wires and would have stopped working had it not been brought to my attention by the aforementioned specialist. I performed a 3/4 assed tape job and used a zip tie to secure the harness to the cab top frame and it's been fine since.

I waited about 3 months for the motors. Follow up with the dealer. If you don't, they'll keep putting other, less patient owners ahead of you as long as you allow it.

The local dealer by me (clair motors) has them in stock and I had them installed a few days after I called. I have to go back for a minor roof alignment though, but they'll do it while I wait.
