Snap-on tools has a 21mm crows foot wrench and shows all of the dimensions, what thickness is the wrench you guys have been making? I'd hate to spend what they want and then have to modify it.....anyone?

Go back and look at this thread and the proper size wrench to be looking for is 27mm.

Chris,
Go back and read the link I posted. In it, Coleman says 21, but look at the picture of the tool he sent me (the tool he uses in his post).... clearly shows 27. I believe it is a typo as Dan pointed out.
I also think Ron is correct that 7mm thickness would fit as the tool Coleman sent is ground at an angle and all of it fits under the valve during removal. I was measuring just the very end of the wrench.

If you check the thickness of the part of the valve that the crows foot goes on you will find that it's 7mm. With the amount of torque required to get that vavle loose it's best to have as much surface area in contact with the valve when you apply force, it also helps keep it in place on the valve, it fits tight on the valve. When I got mine loose it made a loud pop it was so tight.

Chris,
Why not just get on Coleman's list and have the tool work it's way to you? Once you get it, you can copy it and then we'll have 2 floating around to borrow.

I bought a 1" 3/8" drive crowsfoot at Sears and modified it with a grinder in about 10 minutes. You could also grind down (make thinner) a 1 1/16" if you can find one, as it's almost exactly 27 mm. Works like a charm.....
Good luck, Mark.

Chris,
Just a thought but Sunex makes a set of crows foot wrenches. Sunex Professional Quality 8 Piece 1/2" Drive Jumbo Metric Crow Foot Wrench Set. Model No. 9730. High Quality Chrome Polished. Sizes Include: 24mm, 25mm, 26mm, 27mm, 28mm, 29mm, 30mm, & 32mm. I had thought about getting a set from the tool warehouse, they are not on their website but they had told me they coud get them and they are about $33 for the set. Crows foot wrenches and the flare nut crows foot wrenches are very handy, right up there with the ratcheting wrenches.

Very good, thanks Ron. I was about to order a set I found.....for twice that price. Of course it covered from 20-46mm, but I don't think I'd ever need all that. I'm not really into the modifying thing, I'd rather have the right tool. Do you happen to know if these wrenches are 7mm or less in thickness?

Chris,
Wrenches that are that large are almost guaranteed to be thicker than 7 mm. Also I do not know the exact dimensions of the 27mm crows foot, i.e., the overall width, length and the like. Before I made mine I considered getting a Stahlwille 27 mm crows foot but I was not certain that I could attach the extension where it needed to go, right between that metal tube thats next to the check valve.
As far as having the right tool for the job that would be great but I don't think there is a factory recommended tool for removing the check valve with the engine installed. Realistically, manufacturers just can not think of everything and more often than one would like he finds himself making a special tool for a unique application.
A regular 27 mm crows will probably work but it will have to be ground down.

I measured a 10 mm flare nut crows foot and it was about 9.5 mm thick.
