How to Recharge a Halon Extinguisher?
Hey guys,
How does one go about getting a Halon fire extinguisher recharged if the arrow is in the recharge range (red)?
Where can this be done and at what cost? Am I better off getting a new one?

Here in Florida, I was told by my guy who recharges the ones for my business, that they can't or won't (can't remember which) recharge halon extinguishers.

I am no fire suppression expert, but it was my understanding that here in the US Halon could be recharged from the existing product base, but that Halon was not being manufactured. Arrwin, is your FE 1211 or 1301?
1301 link.
1211 link.
National Association of Fire Equipment Distributor's link.
Not sure if any of these links are up-to-date.

Encountered a similar problem a 1 1/2 year ago. The Halons in the BizJet were time expired and needed a check and refill. Could not get our maintenance shop to do the work and had to purchase new ones. (while they last... then back to CO2)
Apparently, the gas is illegal and only systems using Halon now are allowed grandfather rights until expiry date... with no possibility of renewal. "Your results may vary..."
Good luck

Jean-Pierre,
I'm not sure if this only applies to Europe. I believe restrictions were enacted back in 2001, but, according to all of these websites, in the US, one shouild be able to recharge them with the existing halon base.
Maybe a call to Stable Energies would clear it all up.

Thanks Mark,
We eventually bought a new "old stock" Halon. Apparently the Halon base is a thing of the past in EU??
Sad really because in aircraft and fire suppression in race cars, nothing is better.

I'll go along with the others; cannot recharge a Halon fire extinguisher. I tried doing it at a fire extinguisher establishment near me (Susquehanna Fire Equipment Co.) a few years ago and that's what I was told.
